Senior MySQL DBA / Database Administrator / High-Load

About the role

We are looking for an experienced Senior Database Administrator (DBA) with strong hands-on expertise in MySQL to join an international product company in Cyprus.

You will work with high-load production systems and be responsible for database availability, performance, scalability, and reliability.

This role is a great fit for an engineer who is comfortable taking ownership of production databases, solving complex performance issues, and working closely with Development and DevOps teams.
 

What you’ll do

• Ensure high availability, performance, reliability, and security of production database systems.
• Design and maintain scalable database solutions in a high-load environment.
• Configure and support replication, clustering, and data migrations.
• Monitor database performance, identify bottlenecks, and optimize queries and configurations.
• Build and maintain backup, recovery, and disaster recovery strategies.
• Perform database upgrades, patching, maintenance, and capacity planning.
• Troubleshoot production incidents and respond to database-related alerts.
• Collaborate with Development and DevOps teams on architecture and database efficiency.
• Improve automation and contribute to Infrastructure-as-Code practices using Ansible or similar tools.
   

What we’re looking for

• 3+ years of commercial experience as a DBA / Database Engineer, preferably in high-load or large-scale production environments.
• Strong hands-on experience with MySQL.
• Practical experience with Percona and/or MariaDB.
• Strong understanding of database architecture, replication, clustering, performance tuning, and query optimization.
• Experience designing and maintaining backup & recovery / disaster recovery solutions.
• Good understanding of data integrity and database security best practices.
• Strong Linux knowledge, preferably Debian / Ubuntu.
• Experience with Ansible or similar automation tools.
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to take ownership and work effectively in an international team.
   

Nice to have

• Experience with PostgreSQL, MongoDB, or other database technologies.
• Experience with very large/high-traffic databases.
• Infrastructure automation / IaC background.
