Middle + to Senior PHP / Craft CMS Developer

$$$

About the Client

Our client is a Norwegian digital agency working with high-end customers, including clients in the Norwegian public sector.

The company positions itself as a high-quality technology partner, and its customers expect a high standard of technical delivery. As a result, the team is looking for experienced developers who can work independently, understand complex client needs, and contribute beyond pure implementation.

The company is ISO 27001 and ISO 9001 certified and works on projects where information security, quality, and compliance are important.

About the Role

We are looking for a Senior PHP Developer, ideally with experience in Craft CMS, to join the client’s development team.

The developer will primarily join existing customer projects, so the ability to quickly understand an established codebase, architecture, and business context is essential.

The client currently works with approximately 50 active customers, and projects can involve sophisticated CMS solutions, e-commerce functionality, and integrations with external systems such as payment and shipping providers.

Craft CMS experience is highly relevant, but the client is also open to strong CMS developers who can learn Craft quickly. The underlying technical experience, maturity, and ability to work with complex web solutions are more important than experience with one particular CMS.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain PHP-based web applications and CMS solutions.
  • Work with and extend existing Craft CMS projects.
  • Quickly onboard onto established client projects and existing codebases.
  • Develop new functionality and maintain existing solutions.
  • Build and maintain integrations with third-party systems.
  • Work with payment, shipping, and other external service providers.
  • Contribute to e-commerce projects, including Craft Commerce where relevant.
  • Understand business requirements and translate them into practical technical solutions.
  • Consider solutions not only from a developer perspective, but also from the perspective of editors and end users.
  • Collaborate closely with the client’s internal team and contribute ideas proactively.
  • Maintain a high standard of quality appropriate for demanding enterprise and public-sector customers.

Requirements

  • Strong professional experience with PHP.
  • Senior-level software development experience, or a very strong mid-level profile.
  • Experience working with a CMS in production environments.
  • Experience with Craft CMS is highly preferred.
  • Ability to work effectively with existing and potentially complex codebases.
  • Strong understanding of modern web development principles.
  • Experience working with APIs and third-party integrations.
  • Experience with complex customer-facing web solutions.
  • Ability to work independently and take ownership of tasks.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to think creatively and challenge assumptions when needed.
  • Strong understanding of user and editor needs, not only technical requirements.
  • Good communication skills and professional English.

Nice to Have

  • Craft Commerce experience.
  • E-commerce development experience.
  • Experience integrating payment providers.
  • Experience integrating shipping or logistics providers.
  • Experience with React.
  • Experience with Angular.
  • Previous experience working with high-end digital agency projects.
  • Experience working with public-sector or security-sensitive customers.

What the Client Values

The client is specifically looking for someone who is more than just a strong coder.

They value developers who:

  • think outside the box;
  • are proactive rather than waiting for detailed instructions;
  • understand the business and user perspective;
  • can work independently;
  • are comfortable entering an existing project and quickly becoming productive;
  • can suggest better solutions instead of simply implementing requirements literally.

Location and Working Setup

The role is remote.

For a significant part of the client’s customer portfolio, particularly Norwegian public-sector projects, developers may be required to be located within the EU or Schengen area.

Candidates outside the EU/Schengen area may still be considered for projects where this restriction does not apply, depending on the specific customer and security requirements.

Working hours: EU business hours
Language of communication: English

Engagement and Benefits

Contract type: B2B
Monthly compensation: €2,000–€3,500
Paid vacation: 25 working days per year
Paid sick leave: Covered
Public holidays: Covered
Salary review: Once per year
Engagement: Full-time, long-term cooperation

The developer will work closely with the Norwegian client team and will be integrated into their day-to-day development processes.
