Backend Engineer — Founding Hire
We're an early-stage start-up working at the intersection of legaltech and fintech. We're looking for a senior engineer to be our first hire, working directly alongside our CTO to build the product from the ground up. This is a high-ownership role, and cap-table access is on the table for the right candidate.
You build systems where correctness under failure isn't optional — it's the product.
- Rigorous about failure paths. Idempotency is muscle memory (outbox pattern, stable IDs), and you reach for explicit state machines on payments, approvals, and sagas.
- Security-first mindset. You keep security in mind across the stack and recognise where extra caution is needed.
- Comfortable across a backend tech stack. Our main components are Go, PostgreSQL, gRPC, and FreeBSD, but we will also have components in Java and Python, so you must be comfortable across multiple domains. A little frontend work in TypeScript/React can also happen
- Strong in AI-driven development. You have a considered view on your toolset — when to trust the model and when not to — and how to build repeatable workflows.
- Structured enough to own the operational side — writing and following deployment runbooks and DR drills, and treating "we can do an almost-automatic failover at 03:00 without improvising" as a real requirement.
As a profile you will have experience working in Payments, Web3 or other FinTech domains where accurancy, consistency and security is of high importance.
You are comfortable working independent, but reporting to a team structure.
You own your issues, your code and your PRs, You are comfortable taking decisions but also open to discuss when you feel it is needed.
Location & ways of working
Working mode is fully remote. We'd prefer a base in a timezone between UTC−4 and UTC+6, and you should be happy to join in-person events likely in Denmark every 2-3months.
