8Wines is a leading and fastest growing premium wine e-commerce platform serving customers across the EU. Our store today runs on Magento. We're now building beyond it: a custom, high-performance storefront that frees us from Magento's theme layer, plus native mobile apps and automation of our internal processes. We're a small, fast-moving team that leans heavily on AI-assisted engineering to ship far above our size.
The Role
We're hiring a Lead Full Stack Engineer to own and drive this next chapter. You'll set the technical direction and build hands-on across three fronts:
- Custom high-performance storefront — a modern headless front end (React/Node.js/TypeScript) that talks to Magento via API, so we're no longer dependent on Magento themes for speed, design, or flexibility.
- Native mobile apps (iOS & Android) — our store as mobile apps, powered by integration and a middleware layer over Magento.
- Process automation — automating existing operational and engineering workflows.
All of this is built in Claude Code. You'll work as an agentic engineer — orchestrating AI to plan, build, test, and ship faster — while owning architecture, quality, and outcomes. As the lead, you'll set standards, make the key technical calls, and steer the work end to end.
What You'll Do
- Architect and build a headless, high-performance storefront decoupled from Magento themes.
- Design and build the middleware layer between Magento and our storefront and mobile apps.
- Lead development of native iOS and Android apps integrated with Magento.
- Identify and automate existing business and engineering processes.
- Drive Claude Code effectively — decompose work, write clear specs, review AI-generated code critically, and keep the codebase clean and well-tested.
Own technical direction, architecture decisions, and delivery quality across the stack.
What We're Looking For
- Passion to take ownership, innovation and measurable results.
- Leadership — you can set direction, make architectural calls, and drive delivery independently in a remote, async team.
- Proven Claude Code proficiency — you use Claude Code (or comparable agentic tools) daily and can show how it changes the way you build.
- Strong full-stack skills with React and Node.js/TypeScript in production.
- E-commerce (preferably Magento) experience.
- Mobile experience — shipping iOS and/or Android apps (React Native, Flutter, or native).
- Solid UI/UX sense — layout, responsiveness, accessibility, and what makes an interface feel fast and good to use.
- Experience with REST/GraphQL APIs, relational databases (PostgreSQL or similar), and Git-based workflows.
- Clear communication in English.
Nice to Have
- Headless commerce experience (Magento PWA Studio, Vue Storefront, or custom headless builds).
- Cloud deployment (AWS/GCP/Vercel) and CI/CD.
- Payments, shipping, tax, and order-management integrations.
- Interest in wine, food, or consumer marketplaces.
