About the Product:

We are developing a security and compliance platform that helps organizations identify, prioritize, and remediate security risks across employee devices. The solution scans endpoints for vulnerabilities, missing patches, and security configuration issues, processes large volumes of device and security data, and enables automated remediation.
The product is built on a distributed, data-intensive architecture that combines backend services, data processing pipelines, and endpoint agents. The platform requires high scalability, reliability, and efficient data processing to support complex security and compliance workflows. 

 

About the Role:

As a Senior Backend Engineer, you will take end-to-end ownership of the core backend components in our compliance platform. In this individual contributor role, you will shape the architecture of the real-time telemetry pipeline, back-end services, data models, and risk-scoring engine. You will translate product and business requirements into technical trade-offs, propose simple solutions that work at scale, and challenge assumptions early in the design process. 

This position offers the opportunity to make high-impact architectural decisions and drive the technical direction of a mature, growing security product.

Key Responsibilities:

• Design and implement distributed backend services for real-time telemetry ingestion and risk scoring across thousands of endpoints.
• Build and maintain event-driven streaming pipelines using Kafka - from topic design and partitioning to consumer groups and delivery guarantees.
• Define data models and persistence strategies on PostgreSQL and Redis, optimizing for latency, consistency, and throughput.
• Write, analyze, and tune complex SQL queries; improve query plans, indexing, and overall database performance.
• Develop and maintain large-scale data processing environments, focusing on scalability, reliability, and cost efficiency.
• Identify bottlenecks in pipelines and services, and implement improvements for performance and stability.
• Translate business needs into technical requirements and influence product and architectural roadmaps.
• Collaborate with DevOps on CI/CD pipelines, container orchestration, observability, and production reliability.

Required Competence and Skills:

• 8+ years of backend development experience, including scalable distributed systems that process large volumes of data.
• Advanced hands-on expertise in TypeScript and Node.js, with strong knowledge of backend architecture and service design.
• Hands-on experience with event-driven/streaming architectures, ideally with Kafka (topic design, partitioning, consumer groups, delivery guarantees).
• Advanced knowledge of PostgreSQL and Redis, including query optimization, indexing, and performance tuning.
• Good understanding of cloud environments (Azure preferred; AWS is also relevant), containers (Docker/Kubernetes), CI/CD, observability, and general DevOps concepts, with hands-on experience using these tools in day-to-day development.
• Hands-on experience using AI tools in software development, with the ability to critically evaluate and validate AI-generated output.
• Strong product mindset and the ability to make sound technical decisions based on both engineering requirements and business needs.

Nice to Have:

• Background in information security, endpoint security, or compliance.
• Familiarity with edge-deployed agents and device-to-cloud communication.
• Experience integrating AI/LLM capabilities into backend systems.
