TytoNyx Inc.

Mid-Level QA Automation Engineer

$$$

Role Summary

We are looking for a mid-level QA automation engineer with strong hands-on experience building and maintaining automated tests for modern web applications.

This role is for someone who can independently design test strategies, implement reliable automated test suites, investigate failures, improve testability, and contribute directly to the quality of production software.

At TytoNyx, QA is treated as an engineering discipline rather than only test execution. The QA automation engineer is expected to understand the product architecture, participate in technical discussions, identify quality risks early, and help the development team build systems that are easier to test, maintain, and release safely.

The ideal candidate has at least three years of professional quality engineering or software testing experience, including at least two years working with automated tests for production applications. Strong experience with Playwright and TypeScript is highly preferred.

The candidate should be comfortable testing frontend applications, APIs, authentication flows, file-processing workflows, background jobs, database-driven functionality, and integrations with cloud services.

The engineer will use modern AI-assisted development tools, particularly Claude Code, to accelerate test implementation, test-data generation, debugging, refactoring, documentation, and analysis of test failures. AI tools are expected to improve productivity, not replace engineering judgment.

The candidate must understand every automated test added to the codebase, carefully review AI-generated code, recognize unreliable or incomplete test logic, and take ownership of the quality and maintainability of the automation framework.

This is a hands-on delivery role for someone who can move quickly while maintaining disciplined testing practices. The right person is pragmatic, technically curious, comfortable working closely with developers, and capable of building automation that gives the team meaningful confidence in every release.

Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and maintain automated end-to-end tests using Playwright and TypeScript.
  • Develop reusable test utilities, fixtures, page objects, API clients, and test-data management tools.
  • Automate critical user workflows across development, staging, and production-like environments.
  • Build UI, API, integration, regression, smoke, and release-verification test suites.
  • Test authentication, authorization, role-based access, tenant isolation, file uploads, downloads, background processing, and data persistence.
  • Review product requirements, user stories, designs, and acceptance criteria for completeness and testability.
  • Work with developers and product managers to identify edge cases, failure scenarios, and quality risks before implementation.
  • Investigate failed automated tests and distinguish application defects from environment, data, timing, or automation issues.
  • Reduce flaky tests through proper synchronization, deterministic test data, environment control, and root-cause analysis.
  • Integrate automated tests into GitHub Actions or similar CI/CD pipelines.
  • Define which tests should run for pull requests, deployments, nightly regression, and major releases.
  • Produce clear defect reports with reproducible steps, logs, screenshots, traces, videos, and expected results.
  • Validate APIs and backend workflows using Playwright API testing capabilities or complementary API testing tools.
  • Contribute to test architecture, coding standards, code reviews, documentation, and quality metrics.
  • Use Claude Code to accelerate automation development, debugging, refactoring, and test coverage analysis.
  • Review and validate all AI-generated test code before committing it to the codebase.
  • Participate in release-readiness reviews and provide an evidence-based assessment of product quality.
  • Support continuous improvement of the software development and quality assurance processes.

Required Qualifications

  • Three or more years of professional experience in software quality assurance, test automation, quality engineering, or a related role.
  • At least two years of experience developing automated tests for production web applications.
  • Strong hands-on experience with Playwright or a comparable browser automation framework.
  • Strong TypeScript or JavaScript skills.
  • Experience testing modern web applications built with frameworks such as React, Next.js, Angular, or Vue.
  • Experience testing REST APIs and backend integrations.
  • Understanding of HTTP, JSON, browser behavior, cookies, sessions, authentication, and authorization.
  • Experience with Git, pull requests, code review, branching workflows, and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Ability to design maintainable automation rather than relying on recorded scripts or brittle selectors.
  • Experience debugging failures using application logs, browser traces, network requests, screenshots, and test reports.
  • Understanding of software development lifecycle, defect management, regression testing, and release validation.
  • Ability to work independently and communicate clearly with developers, product managers, and other stakeholders.
  • Strong attention to detail and willingness to investigate the underlying cause of failures rather than simply rerunning tests.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience using Claude Code or another AI-assisted software development tool.
  • Experience using AI tools to generate test cases, identify missing coverage, analyze failures, or accelerate automation implementation.
  • Experience with Playwright fixtures, projects, storage state, parallel execution, sharding, tracing, and visual comparisons.
  • Experience testing applications deployed on AWS.
  • Familiarity with services such as Amazon S3, Cognito, Lambda, RDS, CloudFront, CloudWatch, or container-based AWS deployments.
  • Experience testing file-processing, document-management, AI-assisted, or workflow-based applications.
  • Experience with PostgreSQL or another relational database.
  • Ability to query databases to validate application state and troubleshoot test failures.
  • Familiarity with Python and backend frameworks such as FastAPI, Django, or Flask.
  • Experience with Docker and containerized development environments.
  • Experience with accessibility, performance, security, or cross-browser testing.
  • Experience working in healthcare, medical device, quality management, cybersecurity, compliance, or another regulated industry.
  • Familiarity with validation evidence, requirements traceability, risk-based testing, and controlled software release processes.

Quality Engineering Expectations

The QA automation engineer is expected to contribute to product quality throughout the development lifecycle, not only after features are completed.

The successful candidate will:

  • Challenge unclear or untestable requirements.
  • Help developers define meaningful acceptance criteria.
  • Recommend architectural changes that improve testability.
  • Identify quality, security, reliability, and data-integrity risks early.
  • Treat automated test code as production-quality software.
  • Balance test coverage with execution speed and maintenance cost.
  • Avoid automation that produces false confidence.
  • Take ownership of the reliability of the test suite.
  • Use risk-based judgment to prioritize the most important workflows and failure scenarios.
  • Support a release process in which quality decisions are based on evidence rather than assumptions.

AI-Assisted Automation

TytoNyx encourages the responsible use of Claude Code to improve engineering productivity.

The QA automation engineer may use Claude Code to:

  • Generate initial Playwright test implementations.
  • Convert acceptance criteria into test scenarios.
  • Build page objects, fixtures, utilities, and test-data factories.
  • Analyze application code to identify missing test coverage.
  • Refactor duplicated or difficult-to-maintain test code.
  • Investigate error messages, logs, traces, and failed CI runs.
  • Generate negative, boundary, and edge-case test scenarios.
  • Improve test documentation and reporting.

The engineer remains fully accountable for the resulting work. AI-generated code must be reviewed, executed, validated, and corrected before it is accepted. Tests must verify actual system behavior rather than merely reproduce implementation details.
