Middle Automation QA Engineer

A Banking & Financial Services client is building a new digital platform, and the Automation QA environment is being created from scratch. 

You will join a QA team of 5–7 engineers, and grow into a fully modern automation stack — Cypress, REST Assured, contract testing, AWS-native CI/CD.

This is a strong role for an automation engineer who already writes solid tests and wants to see how a QA environment is designed properly, from day one, on a regulated banking program.

Engagement: 5–6 months with a strong possibility of extension. 

Start: ASAP. 

Format: mostly remote, with occasional on-site presence in Germany for kickoff and workshops.

What you will do

• Write and maintain automated tests in Cypress (UI / E2E) and REST Assured (API).
• Cover API and Integration scenarios; contribute to Contract Testing suites under the guidance of Senior engineers.
• Run and stabilize test suites in CI/CD (GitHub Actions) and on BrowserStack.
• Prepare test data, including synthetic data sets.
• Analyze failures, investigate root causes, and report defects clearly in Jira.
• Contribute to test coverage and quality reporting.
• Participate in code reviews and grow under the mentorship of the QA Architect and Senior engineers.

Requirements

• 3+ years in QA, with at least ~2 years of hands-on test automation.
• Practical experience with Cypress (or a comparable JS/TS E2E framework with willingness to switch).
• API testing experience; familiarity with REST Assured or readiness to pick it up quickly.
• Understanding of automation fundamentals: page objects / component patterns, test isolation, flakiness control.
• Experience in Banking / Financial Services or another regulated domain.
• Comfortable working with Git, CI pipelines, Jira and Confluence.

• Basic understanding of AWS and cloud-native applications.

   

Nice to have

• Exposure to Contract Testing.
• Familiarity with Java (Spring Boot) or Angular codebases.
• Experience with BrowserStack or similar.
• Experience with synthetic / masked test data

Mandatory (please read before applying)

• You must be based in Germany (residence + right to work / valid B2B contracting status).
• Fluent German (C1+) is mandatory — it is the primary working language with the client.
• Professional English (B2+) for technical documentation and the extended team.
• Applications that do not meet these three criteria cannot be considered.
