Senior Automation QA Engineer

A Banking & Financial Services client is launching a new digital platform, and the Automation QA environment is being built from scratch. You are joining at day zero: no legacy framework, no accumulated technical debt — you help design and build the automation layer that the whole program will rely on.

You will work in a QA team of 5–7 people, embedded with Product and Engineering.

Engagement: 5–6 months with a strong possibility of extension. 

Start: ASAP. 

Format: mostly remote, with occasional on-site presence in Germany for kickoff and workshops.

What you will do

• Build the automation framework together with the QA Architect — Cypress for UI/E2E, REST Assured for API.
• Design and implement API, Integration, Contract and End-to-End test suites.
• Integrate automated tests into CI/CD (GitHub Actions, AWS CodePipeline) as reliable quality gates.
• Set up and maintain cross-browser/device execution via BrowserStack.
• Contribute to test coverage models, quality metrics and reporting.
• Prepare and manage test data, including synthetic data where production-like data cannot be used.
• Review code from Mid-level engineers and help raise the technical bar of the team.
• Work directly with developers on testability, contracts and defect root-cause analysis.

Requirements

• 5+ years in QA with a strong focus on test automation.
• Strong Banking / Financial Services experience and comfort working in regulated environments.
• Hands-on, production-grade experience with Cypress and REST Assured.
• Solid API Testing and Contract Testing experience.
• Experience with End-to-End and Integration testing on distributed systems.
• BrowserStack or an equivalent device/browser cloud.
• Good understanding of the surrounding stack:
  • Backend: Java (Spring Boot), Node.js
  • Frontend: Angular
  • Mobile: Flutter
  • Cloud: AWS (Lambda, ECS, API Gateway, Aurora, DynamoDB, SQS, SNS)
  • CI/CD: GitHub Actions, AWS CodePipeline, CodeBuild, CDK
  • Tools: Jira, Confluence, SonarQube
• Experience contributing to a framework/environment built from scratch is a strong advantage.

Nice to have

• Synthetic test data generation and masking approaches.
• Databricks / data platform testing exposure.
• Performance testing or contract testing tooling (e.g. Pact) in depth.
• Mentoring experience.

Mandatory (please read before applying)

• You must be based in Germany (residence + right to work / valid B2B contracting status).
• Fluent German (C1+) is mandatory — it is the primary working language with the client.
• Professional English (B2+) for technical documentation and the extended team.
