Senior Backend Engineer (AWS services, Python, AWS CDK, REST APIs, CI/CD)

Project Description:

This position is for a Backend Engineer specialized in secure, scalable backend architectures using AWS services, Python, AWS CDK (TypeScript/Python) or Terraform and CI/CD automation.

Responsibilities:

• Lead the design and development of secure, scalable backend systems and infrastructure using AWS services.
• Architect and optimize ETL workflows for efficient ingestion, transformation, and storage of large datasets.
• Own end-to-end technical delivery: system design, implementation, integration, code reviews, and performance tuning.
• Collaborate with architects and domain experts to define backend and infrastructure architecture.
• Implement and maintain AWS infrastructure using CDK, ensuring security, scalability, and cost efficiency.
• Build robust monitoring, logging, and alerting for production systems to ensure reliability and traceability.
• Work with analytics and product teams to transform business requirements into actionable backend and data solutions.
• Drive best practices in code quality, CI/CD automation, containerization, and documentation.
• Solve complex technical challenges with structured thinking and a data-driven approach.
• Mentor engineers, conduct design reviews, and contribute to engineering excellence across teams.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams; follow Agile/Scrum workflows (tickets, sprints, reviews).

Mandatory Skills Description:

• Proven experience designing and implementing secure, scalable backend architectures using AWS services (S3, Lambda, DynamoDB, ECS, EC2, etc.).
• Strong proficiency in Python development and object-oriented design principles.
• Hands-on experience with Infrastructure-as-Code tools such as AWS CDK (TypeScript/Python) or Terraform.
• Deep understanding of Docker, containerized development, and microservice deployment patterns.
• Expertise in building REST APIs, microservices, and event-driven architectures.
• Advanced knowledge of relational and non-relational databases, schema design, and query optimization.
• Experience designing ETL/ELT pipelines, data modeling, and implementing data quality frameworks.
• Familiarity with workflow orchestration tools like Argo Workflows.
• Strong capability in CI/CD automation, GitLab, testing frameworks, and enforcing code quality standards.
• Ability to translate complex business requirements into scalable technical solutions.
• Collaborative experience working with frontend, data, QA, and product teams in cross-functional environments.

Nice-to-Have Skills Description:

• Knowledge of EKS (Kubernetes) and container orchestration.
• Experience with search engines (e.g., OpenSearch).
• Designing ETL pipelines using Athena, OpenSearch, or Redshift.
• Exposure to Snowflake, data warehouses, Parquet file processing, and schema evolution.
• Familiarity with monitoring and observability tools (Grafana, Tableau, OpenSearch Dashboards).
