Senior Backend Engineer (FinTech)

Location: Europe (remote)
Duration: ~12 months contract
Working Hours: European time zone
 

We are looking for an experienced Senior Backend Engineer / Tech Lead to join a FinTech project and play a key role in designing and building scalable backend systems from the ground up.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop scalable backend services and distributed systems
• Architect solutions from scratch and drive technical decision-making
• Lead backend development initiatives and provide technical guidance to the team
• Ensure high performance, reliability, and maintainability of services
• Collaborate closely with product, engineering, and business stakeholders
• Take ownership of architecture, delivery, and technical excellence

Technical Environment

• Node.js / TypeScript (Express, NestJS)
• GraphQL
• Microservices architecture following clean architecture principles
• Event-driven systems (Pub/Sub) and Transactional Outbox pattern
• Google Cloud Platform (Cloud Run)
• Terraform (Infrastructure as Code)
• Spanner, PostgreSQL, Redis, Elasticsearch
• Python (FastAPI) – nice to have

Requirements

• 5+ years of backend engineering experience (strong Senior level required)
• Proven track record of architecting and building systems from scratch
• Strong expertise in system design and distributed architectures
• Hands-on experience with microservices and event-driven architectures
• Strong experience with Node.js and TypeScript
• Finance / FinTech domain experience is mandatory
• Excellent English communication skills
• Leadership experience and strong ownership mindset
• Ability to work independently and drive technical initiatives

Nice to Have

• Experience with Python and FastAPI
• Experience working in high-scale cloud-native environments
• Previous experience leading engineering teams or technical streams
