Frontend Engineer (Music Education Games) โ€“ Mid/Senior Level

to $3000

About Us

We're MuseCool, London's largest music school, now building The Muse, an innovative platform that assists music tutors in delivering personalised lessons and improving student engagement.

You'll help us develop a cutting-edge music lesson understanding engine, to be used in thousands of real lessons. Expect messy audio, real students, real tutors, real data, and the chance to build something no one has built before.

This is a fully remote role for Ukraine-based candidates. We work with an overlap with London hours.

The Role

We're hiring a Frontend Engineer (Music Education Games) to build interactive music-learning interfaces that respond to live piano playing. Games will be integrated with our real-time lesson analysis engine and become one of the high-value features of our solution.

This isn't static web development, it's about creating smooth, engaging, and playful musical experiences where timing, visual feedback, and audio synchronisation must all work flawlessly together.

You'll work with our team of engineers to turn analysis outputs into delightful, effective learning games for children.

What You'll Work On

  • Build interactive music game interfaces with real-time visual feedback for piano practice
  • Create original game mechanics with real-time performance feedback
  • Implement smooth, performant animations and transitions that respond to live audio analysis
  • Optimise for timing precision and implement responsive interfaces that work across devices
  • Balance polish with pragmatism. Ship features that work, then iterate

Requirements

  • Strong frontend fundamentals (Next.js + React + TypeScript)
  • Experience building performant, interactive web interfaces with complex timing requirements
  • Experience with animation, transitions, and creating smooth user experiences
  • Basic music knowledge (played an instrument at an amateur level or above)
  • Comfortable working remotely with some overlap with London hours

Nice-to-Haves

  • Experience with animation libraries like GSAP, Framer Motion, or similar
  • Experience with Canvas, SVG animation, or game-style rendering
  • Familiarity with animation tools like Rive, Lottie, or After Effects
  • Experience with game development, education apps, or interactive multimedia
  • Knowledge of Web Audio API or audio-visual synchronisation
  • Familiarity with MIDI and music notation rendering (Verovio, etc.)
  • Experience with real-time systems or performance optimisation
  • Mobile development experience (React Native or similar)
  • Some backend or full-stack experience. Useful when a feature needs API support or cross-stack changes
  • Background in children's educational content
  • Curiosity about music pedagogy and learning psychology

Don't tick every box? Apply anyway if you're passionate about music education technology and eager to learn - we value curiosity and drive as much as experience, and we want people who can grow into the role.

What We Offer

  • $2,000โ€“3,000/month depending on experience
  • Autonomy, ownership, and the chance to build something truly original
  • Rapid development and growth as the company scales
  • Weekly online instrument lessons - you get too choose which instrumet you want :)
