Senior SAP DB Locking, Transaction Specialist (Advisor)
Ever wanted to influence how a transactional system is built from the ground up - not by maintaining SAP landscapes, but by shaping how locking, concurrency, and consistency will work in a completely new platform?
Where your understanding of SAP internals doesn’t stay inside SAP - but becomes the foundation for architectural decisions in a different system?
Where engineers rely on you not for execution - but for clarity in the hardest parts of system design?
If you’ve worked deep inside SAP and understand how locking and transactions behave under real load - this role is for you.
At AlphaDevs
We don’t just build remote teams - we work with product companies at the level where architecture decisions define the future of the system.
We partner with engineering-driven organizations that build their own platforms - where correctness, scalability, and long-term thinking are not optional.
About the Product
Our client is building a proprietary enterprise platform, including a brand-new DB locking and transaction subsystem.
This is a high-impact, low-level system where:
- concurrency control defines system behavior
- transaction consistency is critical
- design mistakes are expensive to fix later
- there is no legacy - only decisions being made now
This is not about maintaining an existing system.
This is about designing one that will hold under real-world conditions.
The Role
We’re looking for a senior specialist who can act as an architectural advisor to the R&D team.
This is a high-leverage role with real influence over:
- locking model design
- transaction handling strategies
- system consistency guarantees
- scalability under concurrency
You won’t implement the system.
You’ll help ensure it’s designed right.
You won’t replicate SAP.
You’ll help engineers think at the same level of depth.
What You’ll Do
Guide System Architecture
- Work with the R&D team during design phases of the locking and transaction subsystem
- Help evaluate trade-offs in concurrency, isolation, and consistency
Transfer Deep SAP Knowledge
- Run focused sessions on: lock object design, enqueue server architecture, transaction isolation strategies, deadlock handling, update task patterns
Review Real Design Decisions
- Provide structured feedback on architecture
- Highlight risks, edge cases, and scalability concerns early
Support Critical Milestones
- Engage more deeply when key architectural decisions are made
- Help validate approaches before implementation locks them in
Be the Go-To Expert
- Answer complex questions as the team encounters real design challenges
- Bring clarity where documentation doesn’t help
What You Bring
- Deep, hands-on experience with SAP locking and transaction internals
- Work at architectural level with: enqueue server, lock objects, transaction isolation, deadlock analysis, update tasks
- Experience with systems under real load (not theoretical knowledge)
- Ability to explain complex concepts clearly to senior engineers
- Strong professional English
Nice to Have
- Background in SAP kernel, SAP Labs, or performance engineering
- Experience teaching or explaining SAP internals
- Advisory or consulting experience outside SAP environments
What You Get
- Architectural Impact: Your expertise shapes how a new system handles concurrency and transactions from day one
- High-Leverage Work: No operational noise - only meaningful design discussions
- Flexible Engagement: Hourly advisory model, no fixed commitment
- Real Engineering Challenge: Apply SAP knowledge in a completely new context
Engagement Model
- Remote
- Hourly
- Sessions scheduled as needed
- No FTE, no fixed hours
