Senior Data Engineer (Looker + BigQuery)

About the Project

The company is running a Proof of Concept to migrate and modernise their data stack.
The goal is to move from traditional BI workflows toward more AI-driven, agentic data systems.
The initial phase focuses on PostgreSQL → BigQuery migration and rebuilding the semantic layer in Looker, with potential long-term platform evolution.

Requirements

• Strong hands-on experience with Google Cloud Platform
• Advanced BigQuery production experience
• Strong LookML modelling skills (not only dashboards)
• Proven PostgreSQL → BigQuery migration experience
• Schema translation and data modelling expertise
• Performance tuning and warehouse optimisation
• Understanding of partitioning, clustering, and query plans
• Ability to optimise BigQuery cost-per-query
• Autonomous, fast, delivery-focused approach suitable for POC work

Nice to Have

• Experience with AI-enabled analytics or conversational data systems
• Exposure to modernising legacy BI stacks
• Familiarity with agentic or LLM-assisted insights

Experience

• 5-8+ years in Data Engineering
• 3+ years working with BigQuery in production
• Ownership of at least one major PostgreSQL → BigQuery migration
• Demonstrated ability to build scalable LookML models
• Comfortable working with minimal supervision in rapid-delivery environments
