Senior Drupal Developer (Healthcare) โ Legacy Code

About the project
We build and support healthcare web platforms (patient/provider portals, content hubs, internal tools). A big part of the work is maintaining and modernizing legacy Drupal codebases while ensuring security, compliance, performance, and accessibility.
Responsibilities
- Maintain and improve legacy Drupal projects (custom code, contributed modules, complex integrations)
- Troubleshoot production issues (logs, DB, caching, permissions, edge cases)
- Plan and execute upgrades/migrations (e.g., Drupal 7/8 โ 9/10/11)
- Refactor code toward modern Drupal standards (Symfony practices, Composer-first, config management)
- Integrate with external systems via APIs (REST/JSON:API, OAuth2, SSO; FHIR/HL7 is a plus)
- Ensure security best practices (patching, hardening, RBAC, secure configuration)
- Support accessibility efforts (WCAG AA) and performance optimization
Requirements
- Strong hands-on Drupal experience (ideally Drupal 9/10/11 + real legacy exposure)
- PHP 8+, Symfony fundamentals, Composer workflows
- Custom module development, theming (Twig), Drupal architecture understanding
- Experience with API integrations and authentication flows
- Confident with Git, CI/CD, Docker (or similar dev environments)
- Strong communication and ownership mindset
Nice to have
- Healthcare / regulated domain experience (privacy-first mindset)
- Automated testing, code quality practices
- Redis/Varnish, CDN, advanced caching and performance tuning
- Experience with multisite / multilingual setups
