Middle+ Frontend Developer (React / base44)

Project Overview
Our client is an early-stage startup developing a custom digital product with a modern frontend and a gradually evolving backend. They are looking for an experienced Frontend Developer to take ownership of refactoring and decoupling an existing frontend application currently built on Base44.

The main objective is to make the frontend fully independent from Base44’s platform and services and integrate it directly with a custom backend. The backend is being developed incrementally, so the work will be iterative and requires close collaboration, strong technical judgment, and the ability to work independently.

Role: Frontend Developer
Engagement: Full-time
Team: Small founding team (1 technical backend engineer, 2 business stakeholders)
Work Format: Remote

Responsibilities

• Refactor and decouple an existing frontend application from Base44’s platform and services
• Design and implement an independent frontend architecture
• Integrate the frontend with a custom backend through APIs
• Collaborate closely with the backend engineer on API design and integration
• Ensure high code quality, scalability, and maintainability
• Take ownership of frontend technical decisions
• Communicate effectively and work autonomously in a startup environment

Required Skills & Experience

• 3+ years of experience as a Frontend Developer
• Strong proficiency in JavaScript and React
• Hands-on experience with React Query or similar data-fetching libraries
• Experience refactoring or decoupling existing frontend applications
• Solid understanding of frontend architecture and best practices
• Ability to work independently and take responsibility for outcomes
• Good communication skills

Nice to Have

• Experience working with early-stage startups
• Understanding of backend-driven development and API integrations
• Experience modernizing or untangling legacy frontend codebases
• Familiarity with performance optimization and frontend design systems
