Junior DevOps

At 52North, we’re looking for a Junior DevOps Engineer to support the reliability, deployment, and day-to-day operation of our infrastructure and applications. This role is ideal for someone at the beginning of their DevOps career who is eager to learn modern cloud and deployment practices while working closely with experienced engineers.
 

You’ll help maintain cloud servers, support CI/CD pipelines, and assist with deploying Node.js applications across staging and production environments. With mentorship and hands-on exposure, you’ll develop strong foundations in cloud infrastructure, automation, monitoring, and environment management within a fast-moving startup environment.

Server, Infrastructure & Deployment (Junior Level)

• Assist with the provisioning and basic maintenance of cloud servers on DigitalOcean
• Support the setup and upkeep of deployment pipelines under guidance from senior engineers
• Help configure and maintain CI/CD workflows using GitHub Actions
• Monitor server health, logs, and application performance; assist with routine security updates
• Manage environment configuration, including environment variables and secrets, following established best practices
   

Deployment, Domains & Environments

• Deploy Node.js / Express applications to staging and production environments
• Assist with domain, subdomain, and DNS configuration
• Help set up and renew SSL certificates
• Support the maintenance of staging and production environments, ensuring smooth deployments and minimal downtime

Requirements

• Basic experience with Linux-based systems and command-line tools
• Familiarity with cloud platforms (DigitalOcean or similar is a plus)
• Some hands-on experience or coursework involving CI/CD pipelines (e.g. GitHub Actions)
• Basic understanding of Node.js applications and how they are deployed
• Familiarity with DNS, domains, and SSL certificates at a foundational level
• Understanding of environment variables and basic secrets management
• Ability to follow documented processes and learn from feedback
• Strong problem-solving mindset and attention to detail
• Good communication skills and willingness to collaborate with engineers across teams

Nice to Have

• Exposure to Docker or container-based workflows
• Basic knowledge of monitoring or logging tools
• Previous experience deploying applications to staging or production
• Interest in DevOps best practices, automation, and infrastructure-as-code
