🚀 The Role

We are seeking an experienced PHP Developer for a critical modernization project. Several of our clients rely on business-critical legacy applications that are no longer supported and built on outdated technology.

Your primary objective will be to analyze this legacy landscape, devise a strategic migration plan, and lead the technical execution of upgrading these applications to modern, secure, and supportable software versions. This role requires not just strong technical skills in both old and new technologies, but also a consultative approach to guide us and our clients toward the best solutions.

💻 Key Responsibilities

• Audit & Review: Conduct a thorough review of the existing legacy software landscape, including applications built on PHP 5.5 / 7.4 and cakePHP 1.2.12.
• Strategic Planning: Analyze the full technology stack (Linux CentOS/RedHat, Apache 2, MySQL 5.6) and propose clear, actionable solution approaches and migration roadmaps.
• Hands-on Migration: Lead the technical effort to migrate the legacy software to newer software versions, including refactoring code, updating dependencies, and ensuring full functionality.
• Database Upgrades: Manage the migration of MySQL 5.6 databases to modern, supported versions, ensuring data integrity and optimizing performance.
• Consult & Communicate: Act as a technical consultant, clearly communicating your findings, recommendations, and progress to stakeholders.

🛠 Required Skills & Qualifications

Technical Expertise

• 5+ years of professional experience with PHP development and knowledge of the specific legacy technologies involved:
  • PHP: Deep knowledge of PHP 5.5 and PHP 7.4.
  • Frameworks: Experience with CakePHP (version 1.2.12 is highly desirable).
  • Databases: Strong skills in MySQL 5.6 and experience with database migration processes.
  • Infrastructure: Familiarity with Linux CentOS / RedHat and Apache 2 server environments.
• Demonstrable experience successfully migrating legacy PHP applications to modern software versions and frameworks.
• Strong understanding of modern PHP (8+) and current best practices to ensure a successful migration target.

Professional & Soft Skills

• Consultative Approach: You are communicative, enjoy advising clients, and can articulate complex technical challenges and solutions to non-technical stakeholders in English.
• Problem Solver: You have strong analytical skills and can navigate the challenges of working with poorly documented or unsupported legacy code.
• Language: Upper-Intermediate English skills (both written and verbal) are required for clear communication.
