About Role

We’re seeking an experienced Senior PHP Engineer to take ownership of core backend components in a fast-paced, product-driven environment. You’ll help shape the architecture, scale the platform, and mentor junior team members. This role requires strong technical expertise, autonomy, and excellent communication skills.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend modules for our event-tech platform
  • Build and document robust internal and external RESTful APIs
  • Participate in system architecture design, refactoring, and performance tuning
  • Collaborate with Staff Engineers to ensure system-wide technical consistency
  • Work with Engineering Managers to align development with product and business goals
  • Take part in cross-team initiatives to raise engineering standards and share best practices
  • Translate business requirements into reliable, scalable solutions
  • Write clean, maintainable, and well-tested code
  • Lead by example, mentoring mid-level and junior developers
  • Ensure backend components meet security, performance, and reliability benchmarks

 

What We’re Looking For

  • 5+ years of PHP backend development experience
  • Strong command of Laravel, Symfony, or Phalcon
  • Deep understanding of OOP, design patterns, and software architecture
  • Experience with PostgreSQL, including performance optimisation
  • Proficient with Git in collaborative team settings
  • Applies modern development principles: SOLID, DRY, KISS, DDD
  • Confident writing tests (e.g., PHPUnit) and maintaining testable code
  • Hands-on with CI/CD pipelines (GitLab CI, Jenkins, GitHub Actions)
  • Able to model and explain system architecture (e.g., C4 diagrams)
  • Experience in transitioning from monolithic to service-oriented architecture (SOA/microservices)
  • Familiar with modern architecture styles: Clean, Hexagonal, Onion, DDD
  • Up to date with tech trends, including AI-assisted coding tools and practices
  • Advanced or native-level English, with the ability to clearly communicate technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders, including external partners and clients

 

Nice to Have

  • Experience with cloud services (e.g., AWS: EC2, S3, RDS, Lambda)
  • Familiarity with message queues (RabbitMQ, SQS)
  • Basic frontend skills (JavaScript, HTML, CSS, Vue.js, React)
