Who we are
Vista Auction is an online auction for returned and overstock goods. Items go up for auction in our mobile app, people bid, and winners pick up at our warehouses near Charlotte, North Carolina.
We serve more than 55,000 customers a month, sell over 25,000 items a day, and take more than 7 million bids a month. And we're just getting started!
We run our own warehouses and build our own technology, so everything a customer experiences, from the first bid to the pickup counter, is ours to make better.
The Platform Team
The Platform Team is a group of engineers and product people across the US and Europe that owns the whole Vista Auction platform: the mobile app and website, the auction engine, the warehouse and pickup systems, and the internal tools and AI agents. It is led by our Head of Engineering, who works directly with the founder. An idea can ship and be measured in days.
You will join the team as a product designer, reporting to the Head of Engineering and owning product design across the platform. You set direction with the Head of Engineering and the founder, and you bring the voice of the customer into every product decision.
What You'll Do
- Own design for the mobile app and web app. Discovery, flows, prototypes and final specs for how bidding, winning, paying and pickup work.
- Bring ideas for how auctions should work. Lot pages, bidding mechanics, notifications, scheduling and store credit are all open. Propose changes that move bids, repeat customers and pickup speed.
- Be the voice of the customer. Run usability tests, study behavior in the data, and turn it into journey maps and clear recommendations.
- Work with engineers from the first sketch. Shape requirements, keep designs buildable, and review what ships against what you designed.
- Test and iterate. With tens of thousands of sales a day, a change shows up in the numbers within a week.
- Own the design system. A shared component library for iOS, Android and web that meets WCAG.
- Present your work. Explain design decisions to engineering and leadership, and change them when the evidence says to.
What You'll Bring
Must have:
- A portfolio of end-to-end case studies on shipped products. This is the main thing we screen on.
- 2 to 5 years of product design experience (P2), or 5+ years owning a product area (P3), on consumer mobile and web.
- Figma (or functional equivalent) proficiency.
- Hands-on user research: interviews and usability tests you ran yourself.
- Design system and accessibility (WCAG) experience.
- You write your own briefs and specs and work directly with engineers.
Fluency with iOS Human Interface Guidelines and Material Design.
Nice to have:
- Marketplace, e-commerce or auction products.
- Maze or UserTesting; Amplitude, Mixpanel or FullStory.
- Basic HTML/CSS or React, enough to prototype in code.
- Designing AI-assisted features.
- A degree in design or HCI, or equivalent experience.
