SQL Server DBA (AWS to GCP) for 3 weeks Offline

US Company is searching for SQL Server DBA to make an audit of progress AWS -> GCP infrastructure migration (MS SQL 2019) and assist when and where required. Short-term (3 weeks), full-time or part-time, flexible schedule partially overlapping USA business hours (CST). Remote.

 

The product is mobile and web applications for golf players. The main scope is this sub-project is displaying of 3d models and view on a web page, similar to as it is realized in our mobile apps.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:
I. Come in and audit our current production setup to get an understanding of the following:
I.I. What databases are sitting out there on production.
I.II. DB storage/logs model
I.III. DB backup structure
I.IV. General overview DB security at the server level.
I.V. Always On Availability/Replication setups
I.VI. Review Job Activity

II. Meet a few times with the google migration team to understand their responsibilities and schedule of events.

III. Come up with a test/verification plan to verify these SQL servers as the Google migration team moves them over.

IV. Control preparation and migration of the offline server before the main switchover.
IV.I. We need to know that it is ok for them to do that.
IV.II. What does that do to replication in AWS between this first migration and go live time?

V. Validate test plan to the offline server after its migration.

VI. Be available diagnostics/hotfixes for switchover from AWS being the primary server to Google being the primary server.
VII. Be available for final launch day for diagnostics/hotfixes to verify everything is setup and working like it was in AWS.

 

Tentative target for launch is August 8th. The SQL resource would need to evaluate this outline to determine start date and how much time is needed throughout the project.

 

REQUIRED HARD SKILLS:

  • 7+ years of Experience with MS SQL
  • 5+ years of Experience with AWS and GCP
  • Upper-intermediate (or higher) English

 

REQUIRED SOFT SKILLS:

  • Attention to details
  • Proactive
  • Self-organized
  • Excellent interpersonal skills

 

WORD CONDITIONS:

  • Distributed team: REMOTE work
  • Full-time or part-time.
  • Schedule is partially adopted to CST (overlapping 8am-12am CST)
  • Official contract, but no paid sick-leave / holidays / vacation days.

 

INTERVIEWING PROCESS:

  • Step 1 - preliminary interview (main questions) - up to 30 mins
  • Step 2 - internal tech interview (tech questions) - up to 60 mins
  • Step 3 - tech interview with team leader and architect - up to 30 mins
