Senior PHP AI-Modernization Consultant Offline

Project Overview:

Our client is a regional ISP whose monolith (CakePHP 2/3) powers billing, onboarding, and asset tracking. You’ll help document and refactor legacy code, carve out new services (Laravel/Python), and integrate tools like Copilot, Cursor, and Windsurf into the dev team’s daily routine.

Responsibilities:

• Analyze legacy CakePHP code and generate AI-aided documentation/diagrams
• Refactor into Laravel or build new services in Python (FastAPI)
• Embed AI code-review bots into GitHub Actions
• Run internal AI workshops, mentor mid-level devs
• Improve test coverage (Pest/Pytest), containerize services (Docker)
  
  Requirements:
• 8+ years PHP experience (CakePHP, Laravel, Symfony)
• Proven legacy upgrades to PHP 8 or framework migrations
• Daily user of AI coding tools (Copilot, Cursor, Windsurf, etc.)
• Experience with REST/GraphQL service development
• Solid Python 3 (FastAPI, Django ORM), writing unit/integration tests
• Strong with Docker, GitHub Actions (or similar CI/CD)
• Fluent English and comfortable in client-facing communication

• Kafka or RabbitMQ, OAuth2/JWT
• Experience embedding AI chatbots or RAG tools into Slack/Teams
• OSS contributions or blogs on AI-assisted development
