Droneops

About us

DroneOps specializes in advanced navigational systems for UAV operations. Our focus is on developing robust solutions that enhance UAV autonomy and reliability, facilitating operations in environments where traditional GPS may be compromised. Our technology is designed to be integrated across a range of UAV platforms, delivering precision, resilience and cost-effective enhancements to existing hardware.

Overview

We are looking for a QA Engineer to own quality for our R&D software team that builds onboard navigation software for UAVs.

This is a hands-on lab and process role, not a pure web-automation job. You will test internal R&D tooling, run and verify camera and sensor calibration on real devices, and own pre-release and release checks so that every candidate version is validated on hardware before it reaches flights or users.

Our team is small and cross-functional. You will sit next to the engineers who build the product. We do not expect you to already know our full stack — if you are solid at QA, careful with checklists and logs, and comfortable in a Linux terminal (SSH, reading output, following a how-to), we will teach you the rest.

Must-have skills

• 1.5–3+ years of commercial experience in QA (mid-level; we grow people who learn fast)
• Strong manual testing: test design, regression and exploratory testing, bug life cycle
• Writing test cases, checklists, verification reports, and clear bug reports (steps, expected vs actual, attachments)
• Linux terminal: SSH, navigating the filesystem, copying logs, following shell how-tos
• Git at a basic level (pull, checkout, reading diffs / commit history)
• Turning a test run into a short release quality summary the team can act on (go / no-go, what failed, where)
• At least Intermediate English (reading docs, written async communication); Ukrainian for day-to-day team talk

Nice to have skills

• Hands-on experience with Raspberry Pi, embedded Linux, or any single-board computer
• Docker / docker-compose (running a container from a how-to is enough to start)
• Camera or sensor calibration experience (robotics, computer vision, or industrial setups)
• Hardware–software integration testing (bench stands, serial / USB devices, reading device logs)
• Python for small test scripts or tooling (nice, not required on day one)
• Test reporting tools (Allure, TestRail, Qase, or similar)
• Ability to work with physical hardware carefully: connect cables, flash or set up a device from a documented procedure, notice when something looks wrong

Your tasks may include

Testing R&D tooling

• Manual testing of internal tools used for development, integration, calibration and log analysis
• Reviewing tickets early and flagging gaps or untestable criteria before work ships
• Maintaining regression checklists for the areas you own
• Filing bugs with enough context (version, device, stage, logs) that engineers can reproduce quickly

Calibration and hardware checks

• Performing and verifying camera and sensor calibration on navigation modules (including day and thermal cameras) using documented procedures
• Checking that calibration outputs look sane and escalating odd results
• Flashing or provisioning test devices, connecting them to a hardware-in-the-loop bench, and running smoke and stability checks over SSH
• Collecting device and system logs and calibration artifacts to support bug reports

Pre-release and release verification

• Owning pre-release verification for release candidates: prepare the device, run verify and smoke checks, calibrate, and run multi-hour stability tests on the agreed test setups
• Supporting release verification: clear pass / fail status, known issues, and go / no-go input before a version goes further
• Triaging failures: product bug vs procedure / environment vs flaky tooling — and routing to the right person
• Keeping verification checklists and how-tos accurate as processes evolve
• Working with engineers on test data, fixtures and bench environments so checks stay repeatable

What we offer

• Competitive salary
• Office in Kyiv with shelter access, generator and Starlink
• On-site work with access to hardware and lab facilities
• Possibility of hybrid work format (lab days required for hardware verification)
• Impact on improving our country's defense capabilities
• 21 days of vacation + public holidays, sick leaves

DroneOps specialises in advanced navigational systems for UAV operations.

We are looking for an embedded software engineer to own the platform layer of our onboard computing: the Linux images our navigation software ships on, the provisioning and secure boot chain that protects it in the field, and the tooling that turns a bare Raspberry Pi Compute Module into a flight-ready device. Our team is small and cross-functional. You will work close to the hardware and close to the people writing the algorithms that run on it, with real ownership of the platform from the first week.

MUST HAVE SKILLS

• 3+ years of commercial experience with embedded Linux (for the Senior level; from 2 years for Middle)

• Strong Linux internals: boot flow, initramfs, systemd, journald, udev, device tree and overlays, kernel modules

• Hands-on experience with Raspberry Pi as a production platform, not only as a dev board — Compute Module 4 / 5, EEPROM and bootloader configuration, rpiboot / usbboot

• Building custom OS images: pi-gen, rpi-image-gen, or an equivalent stack (Yocto, Buildroot, debootstrap)

• Secure boot in practice: signed boot images, key management, OTP-fused key hashes, encrypted or verified rootfs (dm-crypt / LUKS, dm-verity)

• Experience with device provisioning pipelines: key injection, per-device identity, factory-side automation

• Flashing and mass-provisioning workflows: reproducible builds, image verification, recovery from a bricked device

• Confident CLI, bash and Python scripting for build and provisioning automation

• Cross-compilation and toolchain fundamentals (ARM64)

• Git and CI-driven builds (GitHub Actions)

• Reading schematics and datasheets well enough to talk to hardware engineers

• At least Intermediate English (reading docs, written async communication)

NICE TO HAVE SKILLS

• A/B (dual-slot) update schemes and OTA frameworks: RAUC, Mender, SWUpdate

• U-Boot, custom kernel configuration and patching, PREEMPT_RT

• Peripheral bring-up: UART, I2C, SPI, GPIO, CSI cameras, PPS/GNSS receivers

• ArduPilot, PX4, MAVLink or another autopilot stack

• Other SoM platforms: NVIDIA Jetson, i.MX, Rockchip

• Hardware-accelerated video and computer vision pipelines on ARM (V4L2, GStreamer, VPU/GPU offload)

• Information security fundamentals: PKI, HSM or KMS-backed signing, secrets handling, threat modelling for physically accessible devices

• Self-hosted GitHub Actions runners for image build pipelines

• Docker for reproducible build environments

• Power management and thermal constraints on airborne platforms

• Experience with restricted or air-gapped development environments

YOUR TASKS MAY INCLUDE

• Designing and maintaining the Raspberry Pi OS images our navigation software runs on — minimal, reproducible, versioned

• Building and operating the secure boot and provisioning chain: signing keys, OTP key programming, encrypted rootfs, factory provisioning stations

• Automating image build, signing and flashing in CI, so a release is an artifact rather than a manual procedure

• Bringing up new hardware revisions and peripherals together with the hardware team

• Implementing and testing a safe field update mechanism, including rollback

• Debugging boot, driver and performance issues on real devices — serial console, ftrace, perf, kernel logs

• Hardening the platform: attack surface reduction, secrets storage, protecting IP on a device that can be physically captured

• Writing the technical documentation and runbooks for the platform you own

WHAT WE OFFER

• Competitive salary

• Reservation from mobilization

• Office in Kyiv with shelter access, generator and Starlink

• Possibility of hybrid work format

• Impact on improving our country's defense capabilities

• 21 days of vacation + public holidays, sick leaves

DroneOps is a Ukrainian defense-tech company developing alternative navigation for UAV. We're scaling in both the domestic and international markets, and we're looking for someone to build our marketing function essentially from the ground up.

Location: Kyiv, hybrid

What you'll be doing

• Define our marketing strategy: decide which audiences, channels, formats and activities we need — and which we don't — and then put it into practice
• Build the company's brand: positioning, visual and verbal identity, tone of voice — balancing transparency, security, and audience trust, as required in the defense sector
• Turn field tests and flights into proof content: short videos with real results and numbers
• Collect and package our achievements and third-party validation: test results, competitions, partnerships, media mentions
• Manage the company's social media presence (LinkedIn, X/Twitter, and other relevant platforms) — content planning, publishing, community management
• Plan key announcements as campaigns (teaser, video, details, partner follow-ups), not single posts
• Build relationships with defense and tech media and podcasts
• Develop communication strategy for two distinct audiences: the Ukrainian market (military, partners, general public) and international audiences (foreign partners, distributors, delegations, trade shows)
• Prepare materials for international exhibitions, presentations, and partner negotiations
• Work closely with leadership, sales and R&D — understand the product deeply enough to communicate its value without oversimplifying or disclosing sensitive information
• Build out the content production process: copy, visuals, video (either hands-on or by managing contractors), including security review before publication
• Track competitor communications and defense-tech trends, and adapt strategy accordingly

What matters to us

• 4+ years of marketing experience, ideally including brand-building from scratch or a rebrand
• Understanding of B2B/B2G communication — defense is not a mass consumer product
• Strong English (written is required; spoken is a plus for communicating with foreign partners)
• Professional-level social media management experience (understanding of metrics, not just likes)
• Ability to handle sensitive information and awareness of communication risks in the defense sector (a plus if you already have this; we'll train on the job)
• Self-sufficiency — readiness to build the process, not just execute a ready-made brief

Nice to have

• Experience in defense, tech, or B2B sectors
• Hands-on video editing or experience managing video production
• Comfortable representing the company publicly at exhibitions and events
• Understanding of SMM analytics fundamentals and PR
• Experience preparing for international exhibitions/events
