Iβm looking for an experienced accountant / bookkeeper to join us on a full-time, one-month contract to help clean up and bring our accounts back up to date.
This is a full-time role for the full month: 40 hours per week, 5 days per week. We need someone who can commit properly for the whole contract period, not fit this around several other jobs.
We are a medium-sized Australian e-commerce business running three Shopify stores, with sales integrated through A2X into Xero.
We are currently behind on our bookkeeping and compliance preparation. Our FY2025 company tax return for the financial year ended 30 June 2025 is now two months overdue, and our BAS is also overdue. The immediate priority is to get our accounts cleaned up and ready for our Australian accountant, including preparation work for the overdue FY2025 tax return and BAS.
The work
You will be responsible for helping us get back on track quickly, including:
- Finalising bookkeeping for the financial year ended 30 June 2025
- Preparing clean, reconciled accounts for our Australian accountant to complete the FY2025 tax return
- Catching up overdue BAS preparation work
- Reviewing Shopify / A2X / Xero flows and identifying any issues or inconsistencies
- Reconciling bank accounts, Shopify Payments, PayPal, Afterpay, Stripe, Shopify payouts, and clearing accounts
- Accounts payable processing and supplier bill entry
- Reviewing the balance sheet for obvious issues, unreconciled items, or mis-postings
- Helping us catch up on monthly accounts, which are currently about two months behind, with some fixes required for earlier months
- Handling other bookkeeping and accounting tasks that arise during the contract
- Flagging workflow problems and recommending practical process improvements

This is not just a transaction-processing role. We need someone who can work independently, spot problems, ask good questions, and help create a cleaner bookkeeping workflow going forward.

What Iβm looking for
Essential:
- At least 5 years of bookkeeping or accounting experience
- Strong Xero experience
- Strong attention to detail
- Ability to work independently and move quickly
- Comfortable working remotely with clear written communication
- Able to start immediately or very soon
- Available full time, approximately 40 hours per week, for one month
Highly preferred:
- Experience with Australian GST and BAS
- Experience with Shopify + A2X + Xero bookkeeping flows
- Experience with e-commerce businesses, especially multi-store Shopify setups
- Experience reconciling payment gateways, Shopify payouts, clearing accounts, and inventory / COGS-related entries
- Willingness to work Sydney business hours during the contract, or at minimum provide meaningful overlap with Sydney time
Hours and timezone
Ideally, Iβm looking for someone who can work Sydney business hours for the one-month contract.
I understand this may be night-shift hours for applicants based in Europe, Ukraine, Africa, or similar time zones. If you cannot work full Sydney hours, please tell me what Sydney-time overlap you can reliably provide.
Minimum requirement: at least 4 hours overlap with Sydney business hours when needed.
Contract length and pay
- Contract length: 1 month initially
- Workload: Full time, 40 hours per week, 5 days per week, for the full month
- Budget: approximately USD $1,500β$3,500 per month, depending on experience and availability
- Start date: as soon as possible
There may be potential for ongoing work if the first month goes well, but the immediate requirement is a focused cleanup contract.
