Contract structure
This role will begin as a paid trial project focused on the successful implementation and launch of approximately 30 priority B2B customer portals.
The initial trial is expected to last approximately one month , although the exact period will depend on portal complexity, customer-data readiness and the agreed delivery plan.
If the initial 30-portal rollout is successful, we intend to offer the successful candidate a long-term contract with responsibility for managing and developing the complete Magento e-commerce function for Chelmsford Safety Supplies.
This is therefore an opportunity to progress from an initial implementation project into a long-term platform ownership and e-commerce leadership role.
Essential Magento B2B experience
Candidates must have genuine, hands-on experience operating Magento 2 or Adobe Commerce within a B2B environment.
Experience with Shopify, Amazon, consumer retail websites, digital marketing or general e-commerce alone will not be sufficient.

Chelmsford Safety Supplies Ltd is a growing UK supplier of PPE, workwear and managed safety solutions.
Magento is becoming one of the main revenue channels within our business.
Our platform provides bespoke ordering portals for customers and their employees. These are not conventional retail websites.
Each portal provides an individual customer with access to its approved PPE and workwear range, agreed prices, users, delivery locations, permissions and purchasing rules.
A typical portal may contain approximately 14 approved products and support up to 1,000 users.
We currently have approximately 30 priority portals that need to be fast-tracked. Following a successful initial rollout, the programme may expand to approximately 300 customer portals.
Initial trial project
The successful candidate will initially take responsibility for the rollout of approximately 30 priority customer portals.
The trial project will include:
- Reviewing the existing Magento platform with CSS and Fluid.
- Understanding the existing portal configuration process.
- Creating a detailed rollout plan for the 30 priority portals.
- Gathering and validating customer, product, pricing and user data.
- Configuring portals within Magento.
- Setting up customer-specific products and pricing.
- Configuring users, permissions, delivery addresses and purchasing rules.
- Completing structured user acceptance testing.
- Coordinating customer demonstrations and onboarding.
- Supporting customers through their first orders.
- Identifying technical or development blockers.
- Producing clear weekly progress and risk reporting.
- Documenting a repeatable process for the wider rollout.
Trial success measures
The initial trial will be considered successful based on:
- Delivery of the agreed priority portals.
- Accuracy of customer products, prices, users and permissions.
- Portals passing structured testing.
- Successful customer sign-off.
- Customers successfully placing their first orders.
- Quality of customer onboarding.
- Speed and consistency of portal creation.
- Quality of communication with CSS, Fluid and customers.
- Creation of a scalable portal implementation process.
- Clear identification of future automation and development requirements.
The precise delivery timetable and portal targets will be agreed after the successful candidate has reviewed the platform and customer requirements.
Long-term opportunity
Following a successful trial, the role is expected to develop into long-term ownership of the CSS Magento e-commerce function.
The long-term responsibilities would include:
Magento platform ownership
- Acting as the internal owner of Magento.
- Managing the day-to-day operation of the platform.
- Maintaining customer portals, users, products, pricing and permissions.
- Managing platform issues and customer requests.
- Ensuring data remains accurate and controlled.
- Coordinating requirements across Sales, Customer Experience, Procurement, Finance and Operations.
Wider portal rollout
- Leading the potential rollout of approximately 300 customer portals.
- Maintaining a prioritised implementation plan.
- Creating standard, intermediate and complex portal templates.
- Improving portal-production capacity.
- Reducing manual setup through structured data and automation.
- Recruiting or coordinating additional portal support where required.
Development and improvements
- Owning the Magento development roadmap.
- Gathering requirements from customers and internal teams.
- Translating requirements into clear briefs for Fluid.
- Prioritising developments based on commercial and operational benefit.
- Managing the development backlog.
- Completing user acceptance testing.
- Controlling scope, delivery and agency expenditure.
- Ensuring improvements are successfully adopted by users.
Commercial e-commerce management
- Managing Magento as a major revenue-generating channel.
- Monitoring online sales, orders, users and portal adoption.
- Identifying customers that are not using their portals.
- Working with account managers to move more orders online.
- Improving customer retention and share of wallet.
- Reducing manual order processing and administration.
- Identifying new features that improve the customer experience.
- Producing regular e-commerce performance reports for management.

Relationship with Fluid
Fluid is our external Magento development agency.
Fluid will remain responsible for:
- Software development.
- Complex technical defects.
- Integrations.
- Platform upgrades.
- Hosting and infrastructure.
- Major technical functionality.
The Magento B2B E-commerce & Portal Manager will be responsible for:
- Portal configuration.
- Platform operation.
- Product and customer data.
- User setup and permissions.
- Customer onboarding.
- Testing and acceptance.
- Business priorities.
- Development requirements.
- Managing the relationship and workflow with Fluid.
Required experience
Candidates must have:
- At least three years of hands-on Magento 2 or Adobe Commerce experience.
- Proven experience in B2B e-commerce.
- Experience operating the Magento administration platform.
- Experience configuring customer-specific portals or websites.
- Experience with customer-specific products and pricing.
- Experience managing company accounts, users, roles and permissions.
- Experience with large customer, user or product-data imports.
- Strong CSV and spreadsheet skills.
- Experience testing B2B e-commerce functionality.
- Experience onboarding business customers.
- Experience working with an external Magento development agency.
- Strong written and spoken English.
- The ability to take ownership and work independently.

- General software project management without hands-on Magento experience.
Candidates must have direct experience operating Magento in a complex B2B environment.
Working arrangements
- Full-time remote engagement.
- Initial paid trial focused on approximately 30 priority portals.
- Opportunity for a long-term contract following a successful trial.
- At least four hours of daily overlap with UK business hours.
- Regular meetings with CSS and Fluid.
- Candidates may be based in Ukraine, Estonia, Poland, Romania, Bulgaria, the Baltics or elsewhere in Europe.
- The successful candidate should be available to begin as soon as possible.
