Data Engineer

Role Responsibilities:

About the Role
We're kicking off a greenfield backend project with an ambitious digital client, and we're looking for a Senior Backend Engineer (Node.js) to join us. This is your chance to build a scalable API and backend infrastructure completely from scratch, and you'll have a big say in how it's designed, architected, and developed.
The backend will power native mobile apps and web platforms rolled out across an innovative global company and used by employees and management. It comes with a long-term, ambitious and innovative roadmap, so this is not just a one-off build - it's the beginning of an exciting product journey.
You'll collaborate closely with our Copenhagen-based product and design team (including talent from one of Scandinavia's top design agencies), and have plenty of freedom to propose and shape technical solutions.
The initial contract is 4–6 months (likely full-time), with strong potential for extension. We're open to some flexibility for great candidates who may have other commitments.

What You'll Do

• Lead development of a Node.js backend and RESTful APIs from the ground up
• Design and implement scalable microservices architecture and database schemas
• Collaborate with mobile and frontend teams to define API contracts and ensure seamless integration
• Take ownership of architectural decisions including cloud infrastructure, security, and performance optimization
• Contribute to frontend development when needed, working across the full stack
• Work in an agile setup with daily standups, sprint planning, and reviews

Requirements

• 5+ years of backend development experience with Node.js/TypeScript
• Proven track record building and scaling production APIs and backend systems
• Fullstack capabilities with modern frontend frameworks (React, Vue, or Angular) to support end-to-end feature development
• Strong understanding of database design (SQL/NoSQL), caching strategies, and cloud services (AWS/GCP/Azure)
• Experience with authentication, authorization, and security best practices in enterprise applications
• Fluent and professional English (spoken + written)
• Experience working with Jira, Slack, GitHub in distributed teams
• Located within CET±2h

Nice to Have

• Experience with event-driven architectures, message queues, and real-time systems
• Prior work on employee-facing platforms, HR systems, or enterprise SaaS applications
• Experience with containerization (Docker/Kubernetes) and CI/CD pipelines
