About the project
Founded in 2015 by former competitive rowers, this Berlin-based company builds connected rowing machines from the ground up (perfect devices for fitness at home). They handle the entire cycle in-house - from hardware manufacturing and assembly to software development. 

The product is now entering a new development chapter, with a total UI overhaul currently underway.

• Work closely with the Tech Lead and developer from the client's side and RN dev, PM, and designer from Stormotion's side
• Ensure the app communicates perfectly with the rowing machine

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Android AOSP Engineer with deep expertise across the full Android stack — from Hardware Abstraction Layer (HAL) through to the Application layer. The ideal candidate will bring extensive experience in embedded software/firmware development, Android BSP, and AOSP customization. • Work with Android source code and build system: synchronize repositories, manage branches and patches, integrate third‑party components, and resolve build issues and conflicts.

• Develop, enhance, and test Android bootloader features, including boot optimization, recovery support, and system diagnostics.

Must have

The role demands advanced proficiency in Android development, with over two years of hands-on experience primarily utilizing Kotlin and the Android SDK. The candidate should possess deep expertise in managing application lifecycle components such as Activity, Fragment, and Service, as well as integrating third-party open-source libraries and payment systems. Familiarity with remote data handling through XML and JSON, REST APIs, and version control systems is essential. Additionally, experience in asynchronous programming with Coroutines and Flow, dependency injection (preferably Hilt), and leveraging Jetpack components including ViewModel, Navigation, Room, and WorkManager is required.

Candidates must demonstrate competence in modern Android architecture patterns like MVVM, UDF, and clean layering, along with experience developing complex client-server applications featuring comprehensive business logic. About the Role

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams on feature design, system architecture, and delivery.
• Participate in agile practices (discovery, refinement, decomposition, sprint planning, demos).

Job requirements

• 4+ years in commercial Android app development.
• Expert knowledge of Kotlin and modern Android APIs: Retrofit/OkHttp, Coroutines/Flow (plus RxJava for legacy), Jetpack (Compose, WorkManager), Google Maps, FCM, DataStore.
• Experience working with design systems and component libraries in Jetpack Compose.
• Proficiency with RESTful APIs and third-party library integration.
• Strong grasp of offline storage, concurrency.
• Experience with performance tuning, and network debugging.
• Practical experience with Clean Architecture and common patterns (MVVM/MVI) applied in production.
• Understanding of backend-service principles and API design.
• Experience with CI/CD (GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, Gradle), code quality tooling (ktlint, Detekt), feature flags, and large-scale A/B experimentation.
• Ability to write maintainable, testable code with solid unit and UI test coverage.
• Familiarity with secure coding practices and data-driven product decision-making.
• Solid knowledge of Google Play's developer policies and full mobile delivery lifecycle.
• Git proficiency (branching, PRs, code review workflows).
• Experience with collaboration tools (Jira, Azure DevOps).
• Familiarity with design handoff tools (Figma)
• Experience using AI-assisted development tools (GitHub Copilot, ChatGPT, Claude) to accelerate coding, testing, and code review workflows
