Solution Architect (Healthcare)
$$$$
About the role
We are looking for a Solution Architect to join the Lead Architect on a healthcare client engagement: first as a hands-on partner during discovery, then as the architect who owns and leads the implementation. Typical projects are modernization of medical information systems (MIS/EHR), building new digital health products and platforms, and integrating the fragmented systems of clinic and hospital networks.
How the role evolves:
- Discovery: work side by side with the Lead Architect: workshops, as-is analysis, target architecture, roadmap, estimate.
Implementation: take ownership of the architecture and lead the technical side of delivery within a dedicated team (Delivery Director, PM, engineers).
Responsibilities
- Co-run workshops with client business and IT; analyze the as-is landscape: systems, data flows, integrations, infrastructure, databases.
- Own selected discovery streams end to end (e.g. integrations, data, infrastructure) and turn findings into documented decisions.
- Co-design the target (to-be) architecture and transition strategy: build vs buy, sequencing, risks.
- Design the integration layer / API facade over legacy systems.
- Assess regulatory and security requirements for the client's domain (personal data, industry standards).
- Define non-functional requirements: resilience, DR, security, scalability, cost.
- Contribute to the roadmap, estimate, team composition and ADRs.
Implementation (leading)
- Own the solution architecture through delivery and keep it aligned with the discovery outcome.
- Lead the engineering team technically: break down the architecture into epics, set standards, run design/code reviews.
- Drive integrations, data migration and phased replacement of legacy components.
- Coordinate with the client's IT, incumbent and 3rd-party vendors.
- Support certifications and audits where the domain requires them.
- Manage architectural risks and technical debt; report status and decisions to the Lead Architect and Delivery Director.
Must have
- 8+ years in software development, including 3+ years as a Solution / Enterprise Architect.
- Proven experience leading implementation as an architect or tech lead: owning the architecture through delivery and guiding a team of engineers.
- Strong knowledge of architectural patterns: microservices and modular monoliths, event-driven, CQRS, strangler fig, integration and resilience patterns.
- Ability to create clear architecture documentation: C4 model diagrams, ADRs, solution design documents.
- Integration architecture: REST/SOAP/gRPC APIs, API gateways, event-driven, CDC.
- Relational databases, data modeling and migration, DWH/analytics fundamentals.
- Cloud-native and on-prem/hybrid architecture OCI (Oracle), containers, DR and resilience.
- Hands-on experience building AI harnesses: LLM integration, agent and tool orchestration, RAG, context management, evaluation and guardrails in production.
- Hands-on background in at least one stack (.NET or Java) and the ability to assess others.
Nice to have
- Experience in healthcare IT: MIS/HIS/EHR, patient apps, health insurance integrations.
- Healthcare standards and compliance: HL7 FHIR, national eHealth systems, medical data protection, ISO 27001.
- Experience integrating with enterprise and third-party systems.
- Architecture certifications (SEI, AWS/Azure Solutions Architect).
Soft skills
- Communicates with the client's C-level and IT leadership; explains trade-offs in business terms.
- Works independently with incomplete information: forms hypotheses and validates them.
- Produces structured artifacts: diagrams, ADRs, roadmaps, risk registers. Mentors engineers and builds shared ownership of the architecture
