Backend Developer (Node.js / TypeScript / NestJS)

We are looking for a Senior Backend Developer to join a UK-based digital healthcare company that combines digital tools with clinical expertise to deliver medical and wellbeing services through its online platform.

You will work on the backend of the company's mobile and web applications, building and evolving services that power patient-facing products in a regulated healthcare environment. As a senior member of the team, you will take ownership of technical decisions and help shape how the backend evolves.

What you'll do:

• Design, build, and maintain backend services in Node.js and TypeScript using NestJS;
• Apply hexagonal architecture principles to keep domain logic clean, decoupled, and testable;
• Design and build REST APIs consumed by web and mobile clients;
• Take ownership of architectural and technical decisions within your area;
• Work in a monorepo setup alongside frontend teams (React / React Native);
• Cover your code with unit and integration tests (Jest);
• Contribute to Docker-based workflows and CI/CD pipelines;
• Share knowledge with the team and support engineering best practices.

Requirements:

• 5+ years of commercial backend development experience;
• Strong expertise in Node.js and TypeScript;
• Hands-on production experience with NestJS;
• Solid understanding of hexagonal (ports and adapters) and clean architecture principles;
• Proven experience designing and building REST APIs;
• Familiarity with React or React Native and TypeScript on the frontend side;
• Experience working in a monorepo: pnpm, Turborepo, or equivalent;
• Docker and CI/CD experience;
• Testing with Jest: unit and integration;
• Good spoken and written English.

Nice to have:

• Cloud experience: Azure or AWS;
• Terraform;
• Experience with both document and relational databases;
• .NET background;
• Headless CMS (Sanity or similar);

• GraphQL.
