AI DevOps Engineer (GitLab Duo / Python / Atlassian / GenAI)

About the project

We are building an end-to-end AI agent workflow connecting Atlassian Rovo with GitLab Duo.

The goal is to create a working prototype that connects agile planning with software development through AI-powered automation, with a clearly defined Jira-to-GitLab integration point and a concept for scaling the solution further.

Atlassian Rovo supports the planning stage by collecting requirements, using knowledge from Jira and Confluence, and creating high-quality User Stories with Acceptance Criteria.

Once a User Story is ready, the workflow is handed over to GitLab Duo, where AI supports the software development process — from generating a technical specification to creating the initial code structure, tests, and Merge Request.

Your role

• Design and implement AI-driven development and DevOps workflows.
• Develop the integration between Jira / Atlassian Rovo and GitLab.
• Build automation around GitLab repositories, branches, and Merge Requests.
• Enable the transformation of Jira User Stories into technical specifications.
• Automate Git branch and initial code structure creation.
• Support AI-assisted code and test generation.
• Automate Merge Request creation and preparation.
• Define and implement the technical handoff between Jira and GitLab.
• Develop automation and integration components using Python.
• Work with REST APIs, webhooks, and system integrations.
• Integrate AI capabilities into existing software development and DevOps processes.
• Contribute to the design of a scalable solution beyond the initial prototype.

What we’re looking for

• Experience as a DevOps Engineer, Platform Engineer, DevOps Automation Engineer, Developer Experience Engineer, or in a similar technical role.
• Strong hands-on experience with GitLab, including CI/CD, repositories, branches, and Merge Requests.
• Strong understanding of CI/CD, Git workflows, and modern software development processes.
• Strong hands-on Python experience, particularly for automation and integrations.
• Experience with REST APIs, webhooks, and system integrations.
• Good understanding of Generative AI, LLMs, AI agents, and AI-driven automation.
• Experience with Jira, Confluence, or other Atlassian products.
• Ability to integrate automation and AI capabilities into existing technical workflows.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• English - B2.

Nice to have

• Experience with GitLab Duo or similar AI coding/development assistants.
• Experience with Atlassian Rovo.
• Experience building AI agents or agentic workflows.
• Experience with MCP, LLM APIs, or AI automation.
• Experience integrating GitLab with external systems.
• Experience with TypeScript and/or Java.
• Knowledge of cloud platforms and infrastructure automation.
