Senior Java Backend Engineer

On behalf of our Client from Canada, Mobilunity is looking for a Senior Java Backend Engineer.

Our client is an innovative HealthTech startup building an AI-, IoT-, and blockchain-powered platform designed to improve visual health and digital wellbeing. The platform integrates wearable devices, mobile applications, AI-driven services, and a blockchain-based reward system to help users monitor, understand, and enhance their eye health while promoting healthier digital habits.

Their goal is to transform the way people care for their vision by making eye health monitoring more accessible, personalized, and engaging. By combining cutting-edge technologies with a seamless user experience, they aim to empower users to take a proactive approach to visual wellness and build the next generation of digital healthcare solutions.

Responsibilities:

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend services.
• Build secure REST APIs and microservices.
• Develop data pipelines for processing real-time IoT sensor data.
• Integrate AI services and blockchain functionality.
• Design and optimize relational and NoSQL databases.
• Improve system performance, scalability, reliability, and security.
• Collaborate with product managers, AI, mobile, and hardware engineers.
• Write clean, well-tested, maintainable code and participate in architecture discussions.

Requirements:

• 5+ years of backend development experience.
• Strong Java (Spring Boot preferred); Python or Go is a plus.
• Experience designing scalable backend systems and REST APIs.
• Experience with AWS, Azure or GCP.
• Strong knowledge of Docker, Kubernetes, and CI/CD.
• Experience with PostgreSQL/MySQL and NoSQL databases (MongoDB or similar).
• Understanding of distributed systems, microservices, caching, performance optimization.
• Good written and spoken English.

Nice-to-have:

• Experience with IoT platforms or real-time data pipelines.
• AI/ML integrations.
• Blockchain/Web3 or token-based systems.
• DevOps and observability tools (GitHub Actions, Jenkins, Prometheus, Grafana, etc.).
• Knowledge of OAuth, JWT, encryption, and secure backend development.
• Experience in healthcare, wearable technology, or other regulated industries.
• Technical leadership or mentoring experience.
