Java + Basic DevOps Engineer (L2 Support)
The Java + Basic DevOps Engineer is the primary L2 resolver for complex application incidents across the operations platform (fleet/routing) and driver management queues. This role handles issues that require code-level investigation, configuration changes, or deployment actions — escalated from L1 when KB articles are insufficient. Basic DevOps competency is required to support CI/CD pipelines, server-level operations, and AWS serverless infrastructure troubleshooting.
Responsibilities
· Investigate and resolve complex application incidents (fleet operations platform, driver management apps)
· Perform code-level debugging, configuration changes, and minor fixes (up to 80 engineering hours)
· Execute and validate deployments to production and non-production environments
· Conduct RCA for escalated tickets; document findings and update KB articles in ServiceNow
· Monitor CI/CD pipelines (Tier 1) and perform remediation (Tier 2)
· Handle AWS serverless infrastructure issues: Lambda failures, DynamoDB anomalies, RDS connectivity
· Support server and service restarts, log-level diagnostics, and environment health checks
· Participate in weekend release activities (several times per year)
Required Technical Skills
· Java: SpringBoot, JBoss — read stack traces, identify root cause, apply fix or workaround in production
· Databases: Oracle 11g, MS SQL Server — diagnostic and fix queries, stored procedures
· AWS: Lambda, RDS, S3, DynamoDB, Kinesis, CloudWatch — hands-on troubleshooting
· DevOps basics: GitLab CI/CD, Docker — pipeline status review, deployment execution, rollback
· Observability: Datadog — log search, alert triage, service map navigation
· OS: Linux — log reading, service management, basic shell scripting
· ITSM: ServiceNow — ticket management, work notes, SLA-aware escalation
Nice to Have
· Node.js / JavaScript (back-end components)
· Kubernetes basics
· Android/iOS mobile app support experience
