About the Product
Livly Island is a mobile social game (iOS/Android) developed by Cocone (Japan). Players raise virtual creatures, customize islands, interact socially, and participate in seasonal events. The game has an established player base in Japan and Cocone UK is building the international version.
Role Summary
We are looking for a QA Engineer to own quality across the full Livly Island UK stack โ from the Unity client to the Go backend. You will be the first QA hire on the UK team, setting up the QA foundation from scratch ahead of launch and owning it through live operations.
What You'll Work With
Client
- Unity 6 (C#), targeting iOS & Android
- Asset delivery via AssetBundles with local caching
- CI: GitHub Actions + Jenkins (builds delivered via pipeline)
Server
- Go microservices backend with gRPC API
- MongoDB (primary datastore) + Redis (caching)
- Monitoring: Datadog, Prometheus
Responsibilities
Test Planning & Execution
- Design and execute test plans for new features, seasonal events, and live updates
- Perform functional, regression, smoke, and exploratory testing on iOS and Android builds
- Validate gRPC API contracts between client and server against proto definitions
Automation
- Work with CI pipelines to pull builds and flag regressions; contribute to test automation where applicable
Release Quality
- Own the QA sign-off process for App Store / Google Play submissions
- Validate AssetBundle loading and CDN delivery across network conditions
- Monitor post-release quality via Datadog dashboards, crash reports, and the feedback pipeline
- Triage and classify player-reported issues alongside the automated feedback system
Cross-Functional
- Collaborate with developers to reproduce and isolate bugs across client/server boundaries
- Validate master data integrity using internal tooling and admin workflows
- Participate in live operations QA for time-sensitive events (seasonal content, gacha, campaigns)
Requirements
Must Have
- 5+ years of QA experience on mobile games or applications
- Hands-on experience testing on both iOS and Android
- Experience with API testing (gRPC or REST) โ ability to validate request/response contracts
- Understanding of CI/CD pipelines and automated test integration
- Structured approach to test case design
Nice to Have
- Ability to write or contribute to test automation
- Experience with Go testing (testing package, table-driven tests)
- Experience with NUnit or similar xUnit frameworks
- Familiarity with gRPC/Protocol Buffers
- Experience with MongoDB or NoSQL data validation
- Familiarity with Datadog, Prometheus, or similar observability tools
- Experience with load/performance testing tools
- Knowledge of mobile game economies (gacha, IAP, virtual currency)
- Experience with App Store / Google Play submission and review processes
- Understanding of AssetBundle / CDN-based content delivery
Context
- New launch โ you will be the first QA hire on the UK team, building the QA foundation before go-live
- Forked from a mature JP product with an established player base โ large codebase from day one
- Targeting Western markets โ App Store + Google Play launch planned for later this year
- Live ops model post-launch: frequent content updates (seasonal events, gacha rotations, shop updates)
