Senior Python Backend Developer $$

We’re hiring a Senior Python Backend Developer who actively uses AI coding assistants (Cursor, Claude Code) as part of their daily workflow. You’ll be taking ownership of a complex FastAPI backend powering a consumer-facing geospatial platform - managing integrations, data processing, and fulfilment orchestration. 
 

Responsibilities: 

• Own and evolve a FastAPI backend with multiple API routes, database models, and external service integrations 
• Implement features and resolve bugs using AI coding tools as your primary workflow 
• Work with geospatial data — ship tracking (AIS), route processing, coordinate transformations 
• Maintain and extend integrations with Stripe, Shopify, Supabase Auth, print fulfilment APIs 
• Navigate and improve an existing codebase — architecture, dependencies, tech debt 
• Write and maintain tests (pytest), follow TDD: write tests first, validate failure, implement, verify 
• Maintain per-feature documentation (MD files) 

• Ship fast, iterate, communicate blockers 

   

Requirements: 

• 4+ years of production Python experience (FastAPI or similar async frameworks) 
• Strong SQLAlchemy / PostgreSQL skills (complex queries, ORM patterns, performance) 
• Experience integrating third-party APIs (payment, e-commerce, webhooks) 
• Mandatory: daily working experience with Claude Code, Cursor, or similar AI coding tools 
• Mandatory: demonstrated ability to leverage AI effectively — prompt engineering, reviewing AI output, steering implementations toward production quality 
• Comfortable with AWS (ECS, RDS, S3, Secrets Manager — or equivalent cloud) 
• Strong debugging skills — catch and correct AI-generated mistakes 
• Ability to quickly understand unfamiliar codebases and spot issues 
• Self-driven, proactive, no hand-holding needed 
• English: working proficiency (async team communication) 

Nice to Have: 

• Geospatial/GIS experience (Shapely, GDAL/Fiona, GeoJSON) 
• Experience with Shopify API or Stripe integration 
• Familiarity with Terraform and infrastructure-as-code 
• Docker and container orchestration (ECS Fargate) 
• Understanding of multi-agent AI systems
