Principal/ Staff Django Engineer

We are looking for a Principal/ Staff Django Engineer to join Dataforest and lead our engineering team.
This is a leadership role focused on driving engineering processes, team growth, and technical decision-making, rather than hands-on coding. You will work closely with stakeholders to build scalable solutions and lead a growing engineering team.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead and scale the engineering team (current and planned size: (20–25 engineers).
• Take ownership of engineering processes, delivery, and team performance.
• Drive technical decision-making and ensure scalable, high-quality solutions.
• Collaborate with product and business stakeholders to align technical and business goals.
• Build and improve development processes, workflows, and best practices.
• Mentor engineers, fostering a strong engineering culture.
• Ensure effective planning, prioritization, and execution across the team.

Requirements:

• 5+ years of experience in software engineering, including leadership roles (Tech Lead / Team Lead).
• Proven experience managing teams of 15+ engineers.
• Strong background in backend development (Python / Django).
• Experience in scaling teams and processes in product or complex projects.
• Solid understanding of software architecture and system design.
• Strong leadership, communication, and decision-making skills.
• Experience working with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.

Nice to have:

• Experience transitioning from hands-on engineering to leadership roles.
• Experience in fintech / payments domain.
