Test Automation Lead (Mobile)

We are looking for a Test Automation Lead (Mobile) with a strong consulting and analytical mindset to assess, design, and drive mobile QA and automation transformation across iOS and Android platforms for a project from Germany.

The product is an online platform for ordering food and goods.

It provides a complete online delivery cycle – from order placement to customer receipt. Users can quickly order food, groceries, or other goods through web or mobile applications, track delivery in real time, and pay online. Restaurants and stores receive convenient tools for managing orders, tracking performance metrics, and attracting customers, while couriers get an optimized route system and navigation for fast delivery.

The company has been on the market since 2011. This is a new client for us. We are expanding the team and on our side are looking for a Lead AQA and 6 QA Engineers.

This role goes beyond hands-on automation. You will work closely with stakeholders to analyze existing QA processes, audit automation readiness, define optimal testing strategies, and build pragmatic roadmaps that balance manual and automated testing. The role combines technical expertise, quality leadership, and consulting skills to ensure sustainable automation adoption and positive ROI.

Required Skills and Experience

Must Have

• 5+ years of professional experience
• Strong experience in mobile test automation for iOS and Android
• Hands-on expertise with Appium or similar mobile testing tool (architecture, best practices, limitations)
• Experience in doing API and UI End2End testing
• Experience working with real mobile devices, emulators, and simulators
• Solid programming skills in Java (TBD - to be clarified, Java is the closest for the existing stack: Kotlin and Swift) or any object-oriented language
• Experience leading or owning test automation initiatives
• Understanding of mobile application architecture and lifecycle
• Experience in QA process audits
• Experience in onboarding new teams/projects
• Experience working with one of the Test Management Systems (Jira, TestRail or similar)
• Experience of using source control systems(GIT)
• Consulting capability to analyze existing customer processes and workflows
• Ability to identify automation opportunities and define feasibility
• Experience in creating a clear automation strategy and implementation roadmap
• Capability to design a transition plan from manual processes to automated solutions

Nice to Have

• Experience with Espresso (Android)
• Experience with XCUITest (iOS)
• Mobile performance testing
• Test automation frameworks design from scratch
• Cloud-based device labs
• Familiarity with Agile / Scrum processes

Key Responsibilities

Mobile Test Automation Leadership

• Define and own the mobile test automation strategy for iOS and Android applications
• Establish best practices, standards, and guidelines for mobile automation
• Lead automation efforts using Appium as the primary cross-platform framework (or similar)
• Ability to decide what should be automated vs. tested manually
• Ability to review and assess existing QA infrastructure
• Assessment of current manual processes, workflows, and QA practices
  
  Hands-on Automation
• Design, implement, and maintain robust, scalable mobile automation frameworks
• Develop automated tests for:
  • Functional and regression testing
  • Cross-device and cross-OS validation
  • Integration with backend services and APIs
• Analyze test failures, improve stability, and reduce flakiness
   

Technical and Team Leadership

• Mentor and guide QA automation engineers
• Review test automation code and architecture
• Collaborate closely with mobile developers, product owners, and DevOps
• Drive continuous improvement of test coverage and automation ROI

CI/CD and Tooling

• Integrate mobile automation into CI/CD pipelines
• Configure execution on:
  Real devices and emulators/simulators
  • Cloud device farms (e.g., BrowserStack, Sauce Labs)
• Ensure test reporting, visibility, and traceability
