Fullstack Developer (Backend-Focused)

In partnership with a global consulting company, we are looking for an experienced Fullstack Developer with a strong focus on Backend development.
We are the software craftsmen behind the digital products of all media brands of our client — a Belgium-based telecommunication company — as well as internal applications that keep the business running.

Our work enables the biggest news and entertainment brands in the Netherlands and Belgium through technology.

Your Main Responsibilities

• Development of new APIs to support clients and fixing bugs
• Upgrading and maintaining backend and frontend applications
• Identifying opportunities to improve the product
• Maintaining and developing a high-quality user experience across existing applications and services in the cloud
• Accelerating the development of services in a fast-moving technical environment

What You Will Do as a Java Backend Developer

• Develop and maintain cloud-based applications and services used across the organization
• Collaborate closely with business stakeholders, developers, architects, and product owners
• Balance fast business delivery with awareness of technical debt
• Ensure quality, security, and long-term maintainability of solutions
• Work collaboratively within an agile squad environment

Must Have (Core Requirements)

Backend & Architecture

• Java 21+ with recent project experience and deep ecosystem knowledge
• Spring Boot 3 / Spring Framework 6
  • Web, Security, Caching, JMS
• Microservices architecture (3+ years of experience)

Cloud & Infrastructure

• AWS (5+ years):
  • ECS Fargate, SNS, SQS, CloudWatch, CloudFormation
  • API Gateway and general cloud security

Databases

• MongoDB (3+ years) — basic CRUD operations
• Relational databases — SQL Server or PostgreSQL (basic CRUD)

Frontend

• 1+ year of experience with React.js, JavaScript
• Front-end test automation

Web & APIs

• Modern web standards: HTTP, REST, JSON

Agile & Tools

• Scrum, Kanban, XP
• Atlassian stack: Jira, Confluence, Bitbucket

Communication

• Professional fluency in English (written and spoken)

Nice to Have (Bonus Assets)

• Advanced Spring Boot: AOP, OpenFeign
• Advanced data experience:
  • MongoDB Aggregation Framework
  • Snowflake, DBT, or Airflow
• Serverless technologies:
  • AWS Lambda (1+ year)
  • DynamoDB
• Alternative frameworks: Quarkus, Thymeleaf
• Domain knowledge:
  • EU GDPR compliance
  • Selligent (Marigold) platform
