As our Senior/Staff Backend Engineer, you’ll design and build core systems end-to-end, architect real-time business-critical workflows, and ship production-ready features daily. This is an intense, hands-on engineering role with full ownership. We expect you to push for excellence and raise the bar.

Location: Remote - this role is available across all countries with 4hr+ overlap for the US ET timezone (NYC HQ)

As our Backend Engineer, you’ll build and own critical features end-to-end, increasing product velocity and powering DualEntry’s AI-native ERP. This is an intense, hands-on role with full ownership.
 

Where you'll create impact

• Design and build core backend systems using Python
• Build APIs, services, and infrastructure handling real-time, business-critical accounting logic
• Launch production-ready features from scratch, including CI/CD and deployment
• Turn complex finance workflows into performant, secure systems
• Manage complexity in a business-logic-heavy product, including migrations and scale
• Integrate third-party tools and external systems while proactively managing risk
• Own work from architecture to testing, monitoring, and post-release care
• Collaborate closely with founders, product, and frontend to co-design systems and ship seamlessly
• Ship fast, make architectural calls, and deploy to prod daily

What sets you up for success

• Hardcore work ethic and high agency
• 5+ years of experience in backend engineering
• Proven track record in high-growth, high-ownership environments
• Strong skills in PostgreSQL, SQL, ORMs, migrations, and schema design
• Experience with AWS or comparable cloud infrastructure
• Strong API design and testing experience
• Understanding of CI/CD, deployment, and production readiness
• Bonus: expertise in Python and modern frameworks (FastAPI, Flask, or Django)
• Ability to manage complex systems with evolving requirements
• Fluent English (C1+) with clear communication

Compensation & Benefits

• Base Salary: $65K–$135K USD
• Equity: ~$30K
