Senior Backend/DevOps Engineer (Hybrid Role)

About the Role
We are looking for a highly skilled Senior Backend & DevOps Engineer for a fully remote position in a global product company operating in the mobility and transportation domain. This is a hybrid engineering role, combining backend development with daily DevOps/SRE responsibilities. You will be part of a cross-functional Platform Group responsible for building the scalable, reliable, and secure infrastructure that powers high-impact, real-time transportation systems used worldwide.

In this role, you will directly influence core architectural decisions, improve engineering workflows, and support mission-critical production environments.

What You’ll Do

• Define infrastructure standards and best practices for engineering teams.
• Design and develop tools that manage and automate the infrastructure behind microservices.
• Build CI/CD pipelines, templates, and automation using GitLab.
• Build, maintain, and operate cloud infrastructure (AWS) and Kubernetes clusters, including Helm and Argo CD.
• Develop a deep understanding of the product architecture and contribute to scaling and reliability initiatives.
• Collaborate closely with multiple teams across the organization to ensure smooth, documented, and secure changes across environments.
• Troubleshoot and resolve production issues, implement automated remediation, and prevent recurrence.
• Bring forward technical ideas, take ownership of projects, and drive engineering excellence.

Who You Are

• 5+ years of experience in backend or full-stack development in a product company.
• Strong object-oriented programming background (language-agnostic: e.g., Java, Python, Node.js, Go).
• 3+ years of DevOps/SRE experience in a production environment.
• 2+ years with Kubernetes, Helm, and Argo CD.
• 2+ years of hands-on experience with AWS (GCP/Azure also acceptable).
• 1+ year of experience with CI/CD systems such as GitLab, Jenkins, or GitHub Actions.
• Strong knowledge of networking, distributed systems, SQL and NoSQL databases.
• Experience with Linux/Unix systems (administration & internals).
• Fluent English and excellent communication skills.

Nice to Have:

• Experience with Terraform, CloudFormation, or Pulumi (IaC).
• Experience working with complex microservices architectures at scale.
• Familiarity with high-availability, low-latency, mission-critical systems.
