Team lead/Senior Azure Devops healthcare SAAS

As we expand our customer deployments, we seek an experienced Senior DevOps Engineer / Team Lead to guide DevOps transformation across multiple development teams. Specifically, we are searching for someone who will demonstrate a unique and informed viewpoint, enjoys collaborating with a cross-functional team, and help develop real-world solutions and positive user experiences at every interaction, with a strong track record of bringing products to life.

The client is a US-based SaaS company in the healthcare and financial services domain. The company has rapidly scaled from 15 to 100 employees and needs a senior technical leader to guide their DevOps transformation, leading a team of 4 DevOps engineers while mentoring 50+ developers across 6 development teams.

A US-based healthcare and financial services SaaS company that has scaled from 15 to 100 employees with 50+ developers across 6 development teams. They are transitioning from waterfall to DevOps culture and need senior leadership to eliminate bottlenecks and enable developer autonomy.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and mentor a team of 4 DevOps engineers while guiding 50+ developers across 6 teams through cultural transformation from waterfall to DevOps practices
  • Design and implement self-service developer platforms with standardized templates and automation to eliminate DevOps bottlenecks
  • Lead urgent migration from Git Flow to Trunk-Based Development (currently manual merges create bottleneck with 6 teams)
  • Complete Terraform rollout across all environments (currently partial) and implement GitOps workflows with Git as single source of truth
  • Standardize release processes and implement push-button deployments across all teams
  • Build sophisticated Azure DevOps pipelines with templates for consistency across development teams
  • Support containerization migration from Azure App Services to Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS)
  • Facilitate cultural shift through workshops, retrospectives, and cross-team coordination

Reports to: Client’s DevOps & Infrastructure Manager

Collaborates with: 4 DevOps team members, 6 development teams (~50 developers), CTO, Development Managers

Technologies

Must-have: Microsoft Azure (App Services, Azure SQL, API Management, App Gateway, AKS), Terraform (advanced modules and state management), Azure DevOps (Pipelines, Repos, Boards), Trunk-Based Development, Platform Engineering, Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, Bicep, ARM), .NET stack, Team Lead/Technical Leadership experience

Nice-to-have: Octopus Deploy, Docker, Grafana, Loki, Azure Application Insights, HIPAA/PCI Compliance, Service Mesh (Istio, Linkerd), FinOps, Azure Certifications (Solutions Architect Expert, DevOps Engineer Expert)

  • Upper Intermediate+ in English
  • Exceptional communication skills – daily interaction with 50+ developers and leadership
  • Master teacher and mentor – facilitate cultural transformation
  • Hands-on technical leader balancing strategic direction with tactical execution

Challenges & Milestones

First 90 Days: Lead urgent Git Flow β†’ Trunk-Based Development migration, standardize release process, complete Terraform implementation across all environments

Months 3-6: Launch self-service platform MVP, implement platform engineering patterns, facilitate DevOps workshops, begin AKS containerization planning

Months 6-12: Full DevOps culture adoption, automated deployments (90%+), platform engineering practice established, execute 2026 roadmap

Working Hours

CRITICAL: Only a few hours with Central Time (US) must be aligned.
