Front-end game engineer for a browser game
We’re building a browser-based MVP of a turn-based Party Board Game with RPG elements. The goal is to understand the playability of the concept: proving core fun, pacing, potential balance, and readability with lightweight visuals, short sessions, and smooth online play. You’ll work closely with a UI/UX designer and a backend engineer to deliver a clean, responsive client and a playtest-ready prototype within 2–3 months.
Responsibilities:
- Develop a map builder/editor for the testing purposes
- Develop the client side of the game based on the game design document and game mechanics overview
- Be lightly involved in the UI/UX design and implementation process
- Contribute to early telemetry hooks (match length, drop rate, win rates per class, etc)
- Collaborate with a game designer and backend engineer; participate in weekly playtests
Required:
- 3+ years building interactive front ends with TypeScript
- Hands-on with Phaser 3 or Pixi.js
- Real-time client experience: WebSockets integration, authoritative server patterns
- Comfortable with game loops, fixed timestep, interpolation/prediction for visuals only
- Solid understanding of state management, finite state machines, and rollback of outdated updates
- Practical UI implementation for games (menus/HUD/tooltips) and basic animation/tweening
Remote, short-term project but full-time.
Please include some examples of your previous works (can be personal projects).
Potential candidates will be asked to sign a basic NDA upon interview.
