Senior QA Engineer for Mobile App

Job role and responsibilities:

We are looking for a Senior QA Engineer with a passion for music to ensure the quality of our mobile and desktop apps (iOS, Android, Mac, PC). You will design and run test plans, reproduce and analyze complex issues, and work closely with our product and development teams to deliver a flawless experience for musicians around the globe.

Your main responsibility will include:

  • Design, execute, and document test plans for new features and releases.
  • Test in-app purchases (subscriptions, upgrades, cross-platform flows).
  • Perform regression, functional, and exploratory testing across multiple devices.
  • Investigate issues, identify root causes, and provide clear bug reports to developers.
  • Test app behavior with different audio devices (headphones, external sound cards, speakers, Bluetooth).
  • Test note recognition and playback features using a real instrument.
  • Collaborate closely with developers, designers, and product managers to maintain high quality standards.
  • Suggest improvements to QA processes, automation, and tools.

What we require from you:

  • Musical background is essential: you play at least one instrument and understand music deeply (theory knowledge or experience with music apps is a strong plus).
  • 4+ years of hands-on QA experience with mobile and/or desktop apps.
  • Experience testing in-app purchases and subscription flows.
  • You own and actively use multiple devices for testing (iOS, Android smartphones/tablets and ideally Mac/PC).
  • Proven ability to analyze complex issues, identify root causes, and provide clear, actionable bug reports.
  • Excellent communication and documentation skills.
  • Independent, proactive and reliable in a fully remote setup — reliable, quick, and thorough: you deliver fast without cutting corners.
  • Analytical, detail-oriented, and user-focused — always prioritizing about how bugs impact real musicians and suggesting solutions.
  • Bonus points for technical know-how with Xcode, Android Studio, debugging tools, and logs.

Technical Questions:

As part of your application for the Senior QA position, please answer the following questions to help us assess your technical knowledge and experience:

  • Which instrument(s) do you play and for how long?
  • How familiar are you with music theory?
  • Which testing devices do you currently own and actively use? (Please list models and OS versions for iOS and Android smartphones/tablets, as well as Mac/PC if available.)
  • Do you have access to different audio devices (wired headphones, Bluetooth, external sound cards, speakers)?
  • Imagine you are testing Tomplay for the very first time as a QA. You download a free song and press play, but you notice that the cursor following the notes is not in sync with the audio. What would be your next steps?

What we offer:

  1. A full-time remote position in an international and passionate team.
  2. The opportunity to work on a product loved by millions of musicians worldwide.
  3. A creative environment where your input directly improves the musician’s experience.
  4. Competitive compensation based on experience.
