What is SAP Fiori?
SAP Fiori is SAP’s official design system and UX framework for building enterprise apps, especially on SAP S/4HANA. It's not just about how apps look, but how they behave, based on consistent UI patterns and user-centered principles.
Fiori apps are typically built using:

  • SAPUI5 – a front-end JavaScript framework created by SAP, based on web standards (HTML5, JS, CSS).
  • Fiori Elements – a low-code approach where the UI is auto-generated from backend data and annotations (OData services).
  • Optionally: UI5 Web Components – for developers who want to build apps using frameworks like React/Angular but keep a Fiori look.

What Skills Should a Fiori Developer Have?
🔹 Core Front-End Skills

  • Strong experience with JavaScript, HTML5, and CSS3
  • Familiarity with MVC architecture
  • Comfort with component-based UI frameworks (like React, Angular, Vue — even if different, they give the right mindset)

🔹 SAPUI5 / Fiori-Specific

  • Experience using SAPUI5 (or be ready to learn it quickly — it’s a proprietary framework but shares similarities with Angular/ExtJS)
  • Knowledge of SAP Fiori design principles and UI patterns
  • Ability to build or configure apps for the Fiori Launchpad (the app portal in S/4HANA)

🔹 Data & Backend Integration

  • Understanding of OData (Open Data Protocol), especially how to consume OData services in UI5 apps
  • Basic grasp of how SAP S/4HANA exposes services (or ability to work with SAP backend teams)

🔹 Good to have

  • Experience with enterprise web apps, low-code/no-code platforms, or design systems like Material Design or Salesforce Lightning
  • Familiarity with Figma or UI/UX design handoff
  • Exposure to TypeScript, Node.js, or REST APIs

Good Candidates Might Have:

  • Front-end devs with Angular/ExtJS experience — since SAPUI5 is architecturally similar
  • Developers familiar with design systems and strict UX guidelines
  • Consultants or SAP devs who have worked on customizing SAP apps or Launchpad tiles
