We are looking for a senior, highly experienced Infrastructure & Automation Engineer who can independently operate, maintain,

and continuously improve our infrastructure and automation landscape. This role requires a strong level of autonomy and technical

maturity — someone who understands complex systems end-to-end and does not need every detail explained upfront.

You will be responsible for ensuring the stability, security, and scalability of our platforms, covering everything from provisioning and cluster operations to monitoring, upgrades, and incident response.

Our core application is built in Java and runs on self-managed cluster infrastructures, primarily on bare-metal servers, with optional integration of cloud environments.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, build, operate, and continuously improve Linux-based server and cluster infrastructures (primarily Ubuntu),

including the creation of new clusters

• Take ownership of existing provisioning and automation systems and evolve them independently

• Maintain and extend configuration-driven provisioning and automation scripts

• Plan and execute cluster upgrades and rollouts using automated provisioning mechanisms

• Operate and maintain core infrastructure services, including:

• CI/CD systems (e.g. Jenkins)

• Identity and access management systems (e.g. Zitadel, including onboarding scripts)

• Monitoring and logging platforms (e.g. Zabbix, Graylog)

• Troubleshoot and resolve incidents and alerts raised by monitoring systems in a structured and sustainable way

• Ensure the stable operation of a big data platform based on Spark, YARN,

and Hadoop on bare-metal clusters, including associated CI/CD pipelines

• Develop and maintain automation tooling using Bash and Python 3

• Apply and enforce security hardening standards (SSH, network-level controls, service-level security)

• Collaborate closely with development and operations teams while taking clear technical ownership of infrastructure topics

Your Profile

• Several years of hands-on, senior-level experience in DevOps, Infrastructure, Platform, or Systems Engineering

• Ability to work independently and proactively, without requiring detailed instructions for every task

• Strong knowledge of Linux (Ubuntu Server) and networking fundamentals

• Experience operating Nginx / OpenResty and Tomcat in production environments

• Strong scripting skills in Bash and Python 3

• Solid understanding of RESTful APIs, JSON-based configurations, and HTTPS protocols

• Proven experience with distributed systems and clustered environments

• Experience with CI/CD pipelines and automation-driven deployments

• Familiarity with monitoring, logging, and alerting systems

• Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills with a structured, solution-oriented mindset

• Very good command of English (German is a plus)

Nice to Have

• Experience with bare-metal infrastructures and/or cloud platforms (e.g. AWS)

• Knowledge of Elasticsearch

• Basic understanding of Java applications in production environments

• Experience with provisioning, infrastructure-as-code, or configuration-driven automation approaches
