    We’re hiring a Founding Football Editor (English) to lead the editorial vision for a new football newsroom. Treat this JD as a starting point - we’re looking for a builder who will set the bar for reporting quality, cadence, and packaging, and who can turn a capable organization into a repeatable playbook.

    You won’t be alone. The engineering/IT, AI, and marketing/distribution teams are in place and ready to move; we also have deep relationships in the sports world. Your job is to guide the editorial direction, own the standards, and orchestrate how editorial, data, and distribution combine to grow a meaningful audience and brand authority. As we scale, you’ll help shape the hiring plan, coaching standards, and expansion playbooks for additional languages and markets.

    What You’ll Do

    • Own the editorial calendar; publish 2–3 briefs/day1 weekly feature.
    • Craft pickup-ready headlines; ensure speed, accuracy, tone.
    • Orchestrate distribution on Social media (Telegram/IG, PR cross-posts) and match-week formats.
    • Manage stringers/translators; coach for quality.
    • Partner with SEO/Analytics on internal linking, schema, and on-page hygiene.

    Working Hours
    Full-time, 40 hours/week.
    Core overlap Mon–Fri, 10:00–14:00 UK time. Some match-day and weekend coverage on a rota.

    What You’ll Bring

    • 5+ years in football/sports journalism with editorial leadership (desk/vertical lead).
    • A portfolio showing breaking news, features, and headline craft.
    • Evidence of distribution wins (Social media - Telegram/IG; PR pickups).
    • Comfortable managing contributors and giving tight, actionable edits.
    • Excellent English; other languages (ES/PT/TR/ID) are a plus.

    Nice to Have

    • Experience in regulated markets (EU/UK/US) or iGaming media.
    • Familiarity with GA4 (Google Analytics), GSC (Google Search Console), Ahrefs, and automations (Make/Zapier).
    • Contacts with clubs, leagues, FAs, or established football outlets.

    Compensation
