BPM & AI Automation Engineer 

Contract type: Full-time, long-term B2B contract 

Location: Europe (remote) 

About the role 

We are looking for a Business Process Automation Engineer to design, implement, and support automated business processes using Flowable, with a strong focus on AI-assisted automation. 

You will work at the intersection of business processes, workflow automation, system integration, and AI, helping us to achieve the AI-augmented, flexible, and exception-driven automation. 

Key responsibilities 

• Analyze and optimize business processes with a strong automation mindset.
• Design, implement, and maintain BPMN / CMMN workflows in Flowable. 
• Implement custom logic using: Java delegates and listeners, Regular expressions, Flowable expressions, Script tasks (JavaScript / Groovy), etc. 
• Integrate Flowable with internal and external systems (REST APIs, databases, messaging).
• Apply AI-driven automation (including document and data processing, email communication automation, etc.).
• Own running processes in production (monitor, troubleshoot, etc.).
• Assist with Flowable version upgrades and migrations.
• Collaborate with developers and functional teams.

Required skills 

Must-have 

• Strong analytical and systems thinking skills.
• Minimum 3 years of experience in commercial projects.
• Hands-on experience with Flowable, Camunda, or similar BPM platforms. 
• Strong understanding of BPMN (CMMN is a plus).
• Ability to write and maintain Java delegates/services.
• Experience with script tasks (JavaScript and/or Groovy).
• Solid understanding of REST APIs and system integrations.
• Higher education (technical or analytical field).
• Spoken English (working level – daily communication) 
   

AI-focused requirements 

• Practical experience using AI / LLMs in automation, decision support, or data processing (hands-on usage is more important than academic theory).
• Understanding of where AI fits into business processes (strengths, limits, risks).

Nice-to-have (optional, not blockers) 

• Experience with Microsoft Power Automate (used for edge integrations/connectors).
• Basic DevOps knowledge (ability to deploy and support Flowable in our Azure environment (monitoring, secrets, releases, incident troubleshooting)).
• SQL (queries, data modeling).
• Frontend basics (React or similar) for simple UI or task-form adjustments.
• Experience in insurance, finance, or complex B2B back-office domains.

Role Description

The Manual QA team is responsible for ensuring the high quality and reliability of our software product through detailed manual testing procedures, while also providing crucial support for any issues that arise in production. The ideal candidate will possess a solid grasp of software testing principles, outstanding communication skills, and a sharp eye for spotting defects.

Role Knowledge, Skills & Experience

• Familiarity with testing web applications. 
• Proven experience as a QA Engineer or similar role for at least 1 year.
• Experience working in an Agile development environment.
• Strong understanding of software testing principles and methodologies.
• Basic knowledge of test management tools.
• Experience in defect tracking and reporting, including prioritizing issues.
• Familiarity with ISTQB Certification terminology and principles. Preferably a Foundation level certification. 
• Detail-oriented with excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• Excellent communication skills.
• A highly organised and proactive person.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Fluency in spoken and written English.

Nice to Have:

• Experience testing APIs.
• Experience working with databases and running queries for testing purposes.
• Experience reviewing requirements or acceptance criteria from a QA perspective
• Experience with effort estimation for tasks and test planning. 

Role Responsibilities

Test Planning:

• Collaborate with the development team and other stakeholders to understand project requirements and specifications.
• Plan testing activities for features or changes, identifying what needs to be tested, key scenarios, and potential areas of focus.

Test Execution:

• Execute manual test cases to verify the functionality and usability of software applications.
• Identify, document, and track software defects, providing detailed information for the development team's resolution.

Regression Testing:

• Conduct regression testing to ensure new software changes do not adversely impact existing functionality.
• Work closely with the development team to validate bug fixes and enhancements.

Development Support:

• Conduct Root Cause Analysis for all production issues on web
• Provide quick QA support to revalidate/replicate production bugs

Documentation:

• Create and maintain comprehensive test documentation, including checklists, test cases, test scripts, and test results.
• Provide clear and detailed reports on testing progress, issues, and overall quality metrics.

Collaboration:

• Work collaboratively with developers, product managers, and other team members to understand product features and user stories.
• Participate in walkthroughs and collaborate on refining requirements for better test coverage.

Ad Hoc Testing:

• Perform exploratory testing to uncover unforeseen issues and provide valuable insights into product quality.

Communication:

• Clearly communicate testing progress, issues, and overall project status to relevant stakeholders.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure a shared understanding of quality expectations.
