UI Designer, Illustrator (offline)

Kalon.Tech is a boutique studio that started as part of a bigger studio about 3 years ago under a different name. About a year ago, our tightly-knit team of hard-working and loyal developers decided to form a new studio and temporarily became Kalon.Tech. Now, after sailing steady, we’ve decided to finish our transition and establish our brand, which is why we are looking for a well-rounded and/or talented UI Designer & Illustrator to join our team and help us take over some key pieces of this transition.

This position focuses primarily in supporting brand design needs for Kalon.Tech and client projects. You will work directly with the Co-Founder and Communications Designer, Marketing Assistant and UX Designer, and will be responsible for the conceptualization and execution of a variety of design projects. You will be expected to create consistently innovative, on-brand designs that support our brand’s unique identity and creative direction.

Who are you

You have a deep understanding of composition, balance, repetition, symmetry, and white space. You can turn complicated problems into creative, innovative and visually attractive solutions. You have a critical understanding of what makes an experience good or bad. You can think through user problems, find reasonable solutions, mock them up in detail, and work with engineers to build them. We like making things beautiful and user friendly and you should feel the same.

You have experience designing for the web and an understanding how to apply both form and function while maintaining simplicity. You can build your own iconography, set your own guidelines, and build easy-to-navigate documents.

Skills/Requirements

1. Bachelor Degree in Graphic Design/Illustration or relevant related field (or 1-2 years of minimum experience in graphic design, interactive design, user interface or similar).
2. A good digital portfolio featuring illustrations, websites and digital experiences you’ve designed, or that showcases your abilities and aesthetics (including brand concepts, web and thought process)
3. Strong knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop), Figma or Sketch and strong typographic ability.
4. Familiarity with Figma’s library feature, both in building and maintaining components and systems.
5. Demonstrated ability to create conceptual designs and ability to extend existing branding.
6. An eye for detail, organization, keeping notes, art boards and files clean and structured.
7. Must have ability to ideate both independently and with a team.
8. Must be flexible and adaptable, and take constructive criticism with ease to apply feedback as needed.
9. An ability to speak about their creative process and how you have arrived at the solutions.
10. An ability to manage multiple simultaneous projects and willingness to take on different design tasks beyond your job title.
11. A passion for staying on top of the latest design trends.
12. Comfortable with speaking English on a regular basis. A successful candidate must have the ability to engage and collaborate easily with team members at all levels both in English and Russian or Ukrainian.

Plus, but not critical:
1. Previous experience with catalog/look book design and marketing material design preferred.
2. Comfort with (or working knowledge)of motion design/graphics and strong interest in self-development
3. Well-rounded UX knowledge and experience on how to work within template constraints.
