Design System Designer (temporary contract)

Merge is looking for a Design System Designer to join us on a three-month, full-time contract. In this role, you will be integral to developing and refining the design system for Project Mindwork, our cutting-edge ERP system.

As a designer specializing in working with design system libraries in Figma, your role is pivotal in ensuring consistency, efficiency, and scalability across design projects. Your responsibilities encompass various facets of design system management and implementation.

Responsibilities
- Design System Management: You are responsible for curating and maintaining the design system library in Figma, which serves as a centralized repository of design assets, components, styles, and guidelines.
- Collaboration and Communication: Collaborate closely with other designers, developers, and stakeholders to understand design requirements, gather feedback, and align on design system updates and enhancements.
- Component Design and Documentation: Design, create, and document reusable components within the design system library, ensuring consistency in design and behavior across all components.
- Style Guide Maintenance: Maintain a comprehensive style guide within the design system library, detailing typography, colors, spacing, and other design specifications to ensure uniformity across designs.
Version Control and Governance: Implement version control strategies to track changes and updates to the design system, ensuring that all stakeholders have access to the latest version of components and styles.
- Accessibility Compliance: Ensure that design system components and styles adhere to accessibility standards, making designs usable and inclusive for all users.
- Training and Support: Provide training and support to other designers and team members on how to effectively use the design system library in Figma, promoting adoption and adherence to design standards.
Continuous Improvement: Continuously evaluate and refine the design system based on user feedback, industry best practices, and evolving design trends to enhance usability and efficiency.

Tasks
- Component Creation: Design and create new components, such as buttons, input fields, cards, etc., using Figma's design tools and functionality.
- Component Naming and Organization: Ensure consistent and intuitive naming conventions for components and organize them within the design system library for easy navigation and discovery.
- Style Definition: Define and maintain styles for typography, colors, icons, and other design elements within the design system, promoting consistency and coherence across designs.
- Documentation: Create and maintain detailed documentation for components and styles, including usage guidelines, best practices, and design rationale to facilitate understanding and adoption.
- Testing and Validation: Test components and styles across various devices and screen sizes to ensure compatibility and responsiveness, addressing any issues or inconsistencies.
- Versioning and Release Management: Manage versioning and releases of the design system library, documenting changes and communicating updates to relevant stakeholders.
- Feedback Integration: Gather feedback from users and stakeholders, incorporate suggestions and improvements into the design system, and communicate changes effectively.
- Accessibility Audit: Conduct accessibility audits of design system components and styles, identifying and addressing any accessibility barriers to ensure compliance with accessibility standards.
- Training Sessions: Conduct training sessions and workshops to educate team members on how to effectively utilize the design system library in Figma, promoting its adoption and usage.
- Research and Innovation: Stay updated on industry trends, emerging technologies, and design tools to incorporate innovative solutions and improvements into the design system.

By effectively fulfilling these responsibilities and tasks, you play a crucial role in maintaining a robust and efficient design system that fosters collaboration, consistency, and productivity across design projects.
