Site Reliability Engineer (DevOps) (offline)

Position Responsibilities:

- Set up and maintain monitors on all relevant metrics generated by application systems.
- Work proactively to identify areas of cost inefficiency, develop mitigation plans, and execute on them;
- Contribute to a knowledge base of best practices for development teams and business units across the organization;
- Work closely with the development team to provide support in regards to best practices;
- Have ownership of handoffs from the development team to move projects from pre-production to post-production state;
- Provide monthly cost captures for all Infrastructure related items;
- Contribute to automated testing, and proactively develop our ability to detect and mitigate issues occurring in post-production systems without manual intervention;
- Develop and maintain documentation for all assigned responsibilities, processes, and procedures;
- Assist in organizing internal audit and disaster recovery exercises as required.

Core Skiils/Expirience:

- Degree in Computer Science, Computer Systems Engineering, or comparable combination of relevant work experience and/or education;
- Strong understanding (with demonstrable skills) of:
1. Linux (Ubuntu, Debian)
2. Cloud computing (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud)
3. Networking (LAN, VLAN, WAN, Firewalls, iptable, TCP/IP etc.).
4. Monitoring / Enforcement solutions (Grafana, Consul).
5. Configuration management (Salt, Ansible, Chef).
6. Orchestration and Infrastructure as Code tooling (Salt, Terraform, Cloudformation, etc.).
7. CI/CD pipeline tooling (Travis, Jenkins, Gitlab, etc.).
8. Working knowledge of scripting languages (e.g. Shell, Python, Javascript).
9. Strong demonstrable experience with programming languages and OOP concepts (PHP, C++, Java).
10. Strong understanding of modern web application SDLC.
VCS Systems (Git).

3. A pragmatic approach to project delivery, training, and documentation.

4. Experience collaborating on multiple projects, including the use of source control and reviewing patches.

5. Previous experience in a Linux systems administrator role or a backend developer role (3+ Years).

6. Good written & spoken English.
