    Mid/Senior Embedded Developer

     

    Venstar is a forward-thinking US company with a strong presence in the IoT space. We design and develop cloud-connected embedded solutions that bring real-world value to users. Our focus is on building reliable, efficient products (smart thermostats, wired and wireless sensors, energy monitors etc) that blend hardware and software innovation. We’re looking for a skilled embedded developer who is comfortable working across system layers (from HW to UI) and enjoys turning complex requirements into robust, user-ready technology.

     

    Requirements (Must-Have Skills) 

    - Expert-level proficiency in C and modern C++ (C++11 or later)

    - Hands-on experience with embedded Linux (POSIX) and FreeRTOS

    - Experience with SoC bring-up (Cortex-M0/M4/M33/A9/A35/Xtensa) and debugging low-level code

    - In-depth knowledge of bootloaders, device drivers, and hardware interfaces (SPI, I2C, UART, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth LE, RGB)

    - Experience interfacing different sensors (temperature, humidity, air quality, water leak etc)

    - Solid understanding of networking protocols: HTTP/HTTPs, WebSockets, MQTT

    - Comfortable working across both application and low-level firmware layers

    - Experience reading and navigating large existing codebases and system architectures

    - Proficiency with CMake  build system

    - Confident with Git and collaborative version control workflows (Bitbucket)

    - Ability to write unit tests and validate embedded code reliability

    - Solid grasp of software design patterns

     

    Nice to Have (Bonus Skills) 

    - Experience with ESP-IDF or TI-RTOS

    - Familiarity with reading schematics, using oscilloscopes, performing basic hardware debugging, basic soldering

    - Development of embedded GUIs (LVGL, Flutter)

    - Knowledge of 802.15.4g wireless protocols: TI15.4, 6LoWPAN, Thread

    - Understanding of security and encryption (OpenSSL, Mbed-TLS)

    - Experience with building devices that use the BACnet communication protocol
