Avvail is a US-based SaaS company connecting preferred brands with exclusive restaurants through a seat-access marketplace. We manage agreements, automate connectivity, and facilitate payments so restaurant operators can focus on delivering great hospitality, not logistics. Our platform is live with real customers and revenue, and we’re a small senior team shipping fast and solving real operational challenges in hospitality tech and payments.

    The Role

We’re looking for a Lead Software Engineer who wants to build, not just manage. You’ll be our first full-time engineer, joining a live platform with real customers and integrations that power seat access and payment facilitation for partner brands. You’ll own core features, services, and reliability, and help define our engineering standards as we scale.

This is a hands-on role: you’ll ship code daily, make architectural decisions, improve developer experience, and help build the engineering team over time. For now, you’ll be both builder and technical leader.

    What You’ll Do

    • Own core platform development across backend services, APIs, and web clients
    • Design and implement scalable, secure architecture and integrations with external partners
    • Ship high-quality code with strong testing and maintainability practices
    • Work closely with product to shape requirements and guide technical decisions
    • Improve developer experience, CI/CD, observability, and automation
    • Establish engineering standards, documentation, and best practices
    • Play a key role in hiring and mentoring future engineers as the team grows

    Ideal Experience

We don’t care about exact years—show us strong fundamentals, real shipped work, and technical ownership.

    • Ruby (our backend is primarily Ruby today)
    • Building APIs and distributed services
    • Cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Fly.io, Render, etc.)
    • SQL databases, caching, messaging queues, background jobs
    • Third-party integrations
    • Automated testing, CI/CD, IaC, monitoring/observability

    Who You Are

    • A builder—fast and hands-on
    • Comfortable making decisions with incomplete information
    • Strong communicator
    • Pragmatic, focused on business value
    • Low-ego, collaborative
    • Excited by early-stage ownership and ambiguity

    Nice to Have

    • Experience with B2B SaaS or marketplace platforms
    • Security mindset (PCI/FIPS, auth flows, sensitive data handling)
    • Hospitality tech, fintech, or payments background
    • Experience mentoring engineers or running code reviews

    Why Avvail

    • Direct influence on product, architecture, and technical roadmap
    • US-based SaaS startup working with major global partners
    • Define our engineering culture, standards, and foundations
    • Work with global partners, premium restaurants, and real enterprise-scale problems
    • Competitive compensation and meaningful early-employee equity (0.5%–1.0% depending on seniority)
    • Remote-friendly, flexible culture, small senior team
    • High ownership, fast decision-making, zero bureaucracy
